This song is actually charting in Canada right now and climbing the charts
Well there we go.
They do massive numbers cause thats all thats played on the radio during that season and streaming has only boosted those numbers exponentially
I guess it makes since for a chart entity like billboard to push old songs off of their charts still seems a bit ridiculous that you can payola a song into being a moderate success when there are other metrics out there.
I'm not going to watch a single teenager dancing to this though.
Theres no dancefor this song its usually in the background of skits

Yea which actually makes the numbers more impressive cause theres no real reason why its going viral
Radio viewership has skyrocketed and is more popular than streaming during the context we're in.
I can pull up some articles if you'd like to read them. Good defense for radio.
I didn't realize that, you would think radio would ha e took a hit from people no longer commuting and hoarding their groceries. Why do you think that it's received a boost?

It's a lot more organic. They're just recognising it's a great song. A standout song on a great album.
I wonder why it hasn't impacted the charts, is radio really that big of a factor?
only 10% iirc
only 10% iirc
I think radio counts more than streams as far as billboard is concerned.

What I've learned from reading is the older generation like the companionship of hearing someone in their homes, so they will tune into stations with both music and a presenter speaking, rather than a purely news-based station which would make them too anxious.
For the younger generations, it's background noise and something to talk about during video conferencing, if they work from home. It almost serves as a faux office radio.
In the UK, stations like BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music, 1Xtra are uniting to create a community. People call in a lot because there's really no other way to connect with people at such a scale outside of social media. We had a "Great British Singalong" and the viewership for that was higher than any previous years', respectively.
There are many more factors, but from what I've read, that's the two thoughts.
Companionship and community.
