JonboiYou're really gonna tip someone less because they didn't bring your salad out fast enough or because they didn't smile or some s***? While you sit on your throne and evaluate people? With incomplete information? Who do you think you are?
Either tip everyone the same, or tip them nothing. You're not their boss. Don't do a performance review.

Only time I ever gave a $0 tip was when I literally saw the b**** get in her car and leave while our beers sat on the bar. Bartender and bar back had to run us out s***, she just came back trying to apologize after we closed out.
Walked right past her and handed bar crew cash tips while she picked up her well deserved $0 tip receipt

Cherrywine001I don’t tip less for bad service, I tip more for good service. Everybody starts at a bottom baseline and must earn a higher tip with good service. Don’t forget it’s entirely optional btw

I just feel like this mindset incentives people to do this:
It sort of reminds me of working at an Amazon warehouse where they tricked everyone into stowing faster so that they might get a little prize for topping the leaderboard.Sometimes service is better. Sometimes service is worse. That's the reality of going out to eat. I'll tip, because that's the structure that's been set up in America, but I'm not gonna evaluate people.
Personally, as long as a have a decent experience and you don’t disappear for the entire time I’m there, I’ll give you an above average tip. I don’t ask for much. I see where you’re coming from tho

we are also talking about a low, unskilled labor job. honestly I’d prefer if gratuity was already included that way the server knows they always getting their 20%. table of 4, $15 a plate per hour if it’s slow and they making $12 an hour. would you rather they make the same amount of pay regardless of how busy it is essentially doing more for less versus the $200 they could have made that night that will offset the slow nights?

Literally all you have to do is be professional, do your job, and not come with bad vibes, and you’ll get 20% just for doing the job you signed up for. If you go above and beyond then yes I’ll tip more for that.
That applies to pretty much every service job imaginable, even the ones that don’t normal ask for tips like my college professors or hospital staff. Things like that
The only time I don’t tip is if someone is being a jackass or just straight up sucks at their job. Nah man. S*** I tip when I order take out and pick it up myself. Doesn’t take much.
