Even if you don't like the album, this is not debatable.

This man gave us an album laced with themes of struggle and duality and delivered on that high concept on every level of the album. From the cover "WHICH // ONE" to the tracklisting (Low Lights, High lights - Famous, Feedback - Pt 1, pt 2) to even the down to how each song is composed and progresses (bleached a****** after heavenly sample). And did all this while delivering some of his most personal and vulnerable lyrics yet

He even gave us his greatest high concept video ever in Famous. Where he's literally deconstructing the idea of 'fame' and how the media and the public intrudes on famous peoples' lives in their most vulnerable moments - PLUS the references to the s***tape aesthetic PLUS an almost prophetic cameo from "trump" PLUS a commentary on how famous peoples' likeness aren't even their own (he got no permission for anyone's body doubles, "I dare you to sue me", they're all public figures so their likeness can be replicated parodied and remixed).

Not even to mention the whole updating the album in real time thing - Kanye really took 3 years after Yeezus and crafted the best fusion between high art and mainstream pop culture since MBDTF and y'all DID NOT appreciate it

Although this album to me probably has the highest replay value I’ve always felt it was his least conceptual album

I prefer yeezus conceputually but pablo is also interesting.

Kanye warped the traditional album format in a similar way Pablo/Cubists warped traditional art. Kanye was asking, how can I portray all of these contradicting elements of my personality in one album and really emphasize the way they contrast with each other? George Condo has a similar approach to his art and he did the art for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Condo also previously worked with Picasso so i'm assuming it rubbed off onto Kanye.

    OUT OF ORDER

What aspects of Yeezus do you prefer

Kanye basically perfected the structural aspect of making albums with yeezus, that's why he wanted to do the opposite for pablo. it also reminds me of notes from underground by Dostoevsky.

the way Kanye is so resentful and aware of his flaws yet indulges in them so much reminded me of the underground man. also, there's a strong sense of ennui that lies under all of the rage. It's also Kanye's most Christian album but I'm saving that for a later thread. there's a relation between Dostoevsky's idea of the underground man being an archetypal person in a world where religion isn't the main ideology and the character Kanye presents in yeezus.

^thread i made earlier about my perspective on the album

yeezus is also an amalgam of blackness from all cultures and time periods condensed into 10 songs.

plus the whole era was so dope, the tour, the merch, the interviews, the fashion, the art, it was elite as f***

love the effort but politely disagree. Conceptually easily behind MBDTF and 808s (could argue for LR and CD too).....

I personally feel like TLOP was his most rushed/slapped together effort yet (other than Yeezus which I LOVE but if we're talking concept/direction, it is a Rick Rubin ft. KW album haha)...... So much of TLOP ghost written, and Ye couldn't even get those lyrics right (see Waves lol)

but yeah I love TLOP too
