Yeezus and tlop def most conceptual
Then jik/ye/ ksg
Mbdtf aswell but does it in a diff way
Nothing about TLOP is conceptual to me it’s just a super fun album with incredible replay value. It’s super mainstream like Graduation but with a modern soundscape. I guess if I had to describe it I’d say it’s a celebration type album but nothing more or less to me
Even if you don't like the album, this is not debatable.
This man gave us an album laced with themes of struggle and duality and delivered on that high concept on every level of the album. From the cover "WHICH // ONE" to the tracklisting (Low Lights, High lights - Famous, Feedback - Pt 1, pt 2) to even the down to how each song is composed and progresses (bleached a****** after heavenly sample). And did all this while delivering some of his most personal and vulnerable lyrics yet
He even gave us his greatest high concept video ever in Famous. Where he's literally deconstructing the idea of 'fame' and how the media and the public intrudes on famous peoples' lives in their most vulnerable moments - PLUS the references to the s***tape aesthetic PLUS an almost prophetic cameo from "trump" PLUS a commentary on how famous peoples' likeness aren't even their own (he got no permission for anyone's body doubles, "I dare you to sue me", they're all public figures so their likeness can be replicated parodied and remixed).
Not even to mention the whole updating the album in real time thing - Kanye really took 3 years after Yeezus and crafted the best fusion between high art and mainstream pop culture since MBDTF and y'all DID NOT appreciate it
very good thread

Respectfully, if thats all you get from it you are listening very passively

I believe I took that era for granted. Idk if it was bc of all the negative feedback from ktt at the time but the more I think about it now conceptually I see more than just a fun album. I’m gonna sit down & give it a true visualization next time I play it bc it most definitely deserves it I mean that album is so incredible & beautiful

Just try and listen to each trach as part of a larger story taking in tbe context what came before and after and u will see more
Also everythin afyer wolves is bonus
Album has so many good songs Ye didn’t even have any spots left to put All Day or Only One on it

2 of the best songs from the era

Yeah you’re right, there’s definitely some cohesiveness to this project but I’ll indulge everything as much as I can all the way down to the artwork to receive the conceptualism of it
yeezus did everything tlop tried to do but 10x better so ...no
they didn't even try to do the same things imo yeezus is a character, a facade and tlop is him revealing so much more of the real, even if to a fault
but even so - take for example the new slaves projections. very cool, and i loved it but what purpose beyond aesthetics did it really serve? you could make allusions to 'big brother'/'new slaves' but there's not as much there to unpack like there is in the famous video for example
brine remember when people hated tlop
loved since day 1
i knew it was something special when it dropped

s*** is literally his closest thing to a cinema as sound, and y’all were mad because “bleached a******s”
