“In the late '90s, when Asia went through a huge financial crisis, South Korea's leaders decided to use music to improve its image and build its cultural influence. So the country's government poured millions of dollars into forming a Ministry of Culture with a specific department devoted to K-pop.
"It turns out that the Korean government treats its K-pop industry the way that the American government treats its automobile and banking industry, meaning that these are industries that have to be protected," Hong says.“
"They wanted Korea of the 21st century to be like America of the 20th century where America was just considered so universally cool that anything made in America would automatically be bought."

How is this “propaganda” just say you dislike the music and go, it isn’t that hard

Propaganda
Don’t have an issue w the music but denying its origins is not it
Imagine listening to music in a language you don’t understand
Because we like how it sounds 🤨

Why would you lock yourself out of so much music for such a stupid reason

How is it a “stupid reason” to want to understand the lyrical content of a piece
“Locking yourself out” would be depriving yourself of understanding a piece’s lyrics in the first place

Because you don’t have to understand somethings lyrics to actually enjoy how the music itself sounds, also kpop isn’t a genre where lyricism matters as much anyway
Translation is always available in the end

But like you can’t scream the lyrics in the whip??? That’s one of the most fun things about music
the vast majority of kpop, to me, is just rehashed, boring American billboard pop with a new gleam.
there's a few gems out there though.
it’s cute , the production often times is catchy and or is an homage to old school rap/rnb/pop/hip hop vibes . when you look up lyrics , a lot of the songs are very personal in regards to love, pain, grief and joy .
Kpop is literally government propaganda created by the government to increase Korea’s notoriety world wide. Look it up
They unveil the new artists/bands like a new game console at e3. That’s not even getting into the forced plastic surgery and the dancing and singing camps that a lot of idols have to go thru
How is it a “stupid reason” to want to understand the lyrical content of a piece
Translated lyrics are a thing
all this new kpop ain’t even touching this s*** tho
