Need that Burger King Kunta phone call.
they accidentally put the clean version on itunes a week before the release date, that’s how it got leaked right?
Pretty hard to be hyperbolic about this album. The rapping, the musicianship, the production and sound engineering, the songwriting were all done at the absolute highest level.
One of my favorite pieces of art I’ve ever known.
How is it taking the torch lol what did it do better
Too early to say, but you can tell with GNX that he had a fun time making it.
And that doesnt always translate to “great” album but you can tell he was just a lot moree freer and looser on gnx than most albums.
The thing with everything around tpab from the album to the shows, everything was frigging rigid and strict. While that mindset gave us some of the best live rap performances ever, i can see that s*** being draining.
Seeing those live vids tpab era inspired me as an artist to get my s*** together, and that s*** is draining to do for the few times i perform. Imagine having to do that for a whole year.
He’s more relaxed now. I can see that influencing other ppl views of that album
I really don't think so. There's a lot of people like me who loved TPAB off rip who are still critical about MM. To me, it's just got way more misses than his prior albums and I don't see my opinion ever changing about those songs. 5 years from now, I don't think I'm going to love Mr Morale, Aunties Diaries, We Cry Together
Plenty of people have already shifted on MM but I don't think it'll ever be to the point where it's like GKMC/TPAB universal classic level
Those albums are landmark albums in a genre, of course it'll never be at those levels.
But even the amount of change up on MM in the last few years compared to the month it dropped?
GKMC, DAMN, and GNX the only albums in his discography that were overly loved on 1st listen tbh.
we talk about momma so much but that ENDING bro
MAYBE I'M PARANOID (HA!) MAYBE I DONT NEED YOU ANYWAY
DON'T LIE TO ME I'M SUICIDAL ANYWAYS
(like bro you can tell this was a soul-crushingly brutal album to make .)
But THAT's how you rap when the rent is f***ing due.

this man's live performances from 2014-2015 are better than most rappers entire careers
I remember this dropped earlier than it was supposed to on a sunday night I believe. First album I’ve ever heard high. Twitter was fun that night too. What a time
You love Kendrick music cuz you be in every thread for the hood. Move out lol you 28 fam
Troy ave Stan is pathetic

Both of those albums are by the same rapper though, why can it never be at those levels? If you say you saw the turnaround in reception to TPAB and you're expecting similar to happen for MM, that seems like you're expecting the end result of MM's reception to be at a similar level of TPAB's
In hindsight: negus aged like milk ( africans was like “ ” ) and that pac interview while creative wassssssabitcornyandmelodramaticandhighlightedevenbackthenkendrickwasntreallywiththeshits
But, I see the vision.
And it doesnt ruin the album for me
How did it highlight Kendrick wasn’t wit the s***s to you? I think people misconstrue that message as “respectability politics” but as a nigga from a similar environment with heavy gang influence, I understand where his thought process was.
Do I believe police brutality and racism would stop if gang violence stopped? Not necessarily but I do think we got bigger enemies to focus on then beefing over blocks niggas don’t own S*** in my city a cop just got killed because we got 14 year olds heavy in the streets and lil bro was just tryna protect himself because his side is at war, he ain’t know nor felt like he had the time to wait to figure out if wit was opps or the jump out boys. Crazy to say he was acting off “instinct” in a way. It’s deeper than just “respecting each other” yeah but it’s a start.

This era is when Kendrick really elevated as a live performer imo. Imagine Dragons Grammys performance his breath control was still doodoo, seen him live early 2014 too and thought the same thing. But he popped off at every Untitled performance he did during this time before TPAB's release. Even got the audio from the Untitled 08 one saved on my phone

2pac talking about it's gonna be murder in the streets and niggas might eat the rich on some cannibalism s*** and Kendrick replies by saying all we got left is "good vibes through the music"
it's way simpler than you making it out to be.
