I remember this dropped earlier than it was supposed to on a sunday night I believe. First album I’ve ever heard high. Twitter was fun that night too. What a time

I remember it being pre streaming days (or at least I wasn't using streaming services yet)...stayed up til like 2 in the morning, burned it to a cd, and played it on my walkman first listen was some wild s*** that truly just kept knocking me on my ass

Both of those albums are by the same rapper though, why can it never be at those levels? If you say you saw the turnaround in reception to TPAB and you're expecting similar to happen for MM, that seems like you're expecting the end result of MM's reception to be at a similar level of TPAB's

they're by the same rapper but that rapper's mindsey during TPAB is different than the mindset during MM

also MM was hated on release bro meaning if it gets to "it's a good album" in years time, that in itself is an accomplishment.

    TPAB was just mixed lol.

Classic. This is when I knew Kendrick was a different type of artist.

To do a conceptual jazz, funk album for mainstream hip hop at that time was wild. Everything was 808s, Drill and Trap music.

2pac talking about it's gonna be murder in the streets and niggas might eat the rich on some cannibalism s*** and Kendrick replies by saying all we got left is "good vibes through the music"

it's way simpler than you making it out to be.

We heard it differently. I don’t think that was his response to what Pac specifically said about bloodshed. Pac was also “answering” his question, giving his opinion. It’s not that I think it’s deeper than it is I think there is a lot more nuance to the entire topic.

I just think MM is a worse album and that's why the reception will never be as good as TPAB. People don't need to come around to anything with time, it's just simply not as good

MM reception was also mixed. Critics rated it highly, there were people who loved it on release. But not as many as TPAB because again, it's just not on that level

Saying MM was hated on release is exaggerated lol it just had more mixed reception than his previous

Critics didnt rate it highly as tpab dawg

  • Damn this the first place I'm seeing the 10th anni being mentioned

  • now how can an album like this be “overrated” when it was never well praised the day it dropped?

If he cut this album after How Much a Dollar Cost it would’ve been a perfect album tbh

  • These Walls probably his best song
