I still remember the first listen and being floored.

Jeez, time flies. I don’t think we’ve seen an acclaimed album that KTT hated on more passionately since this dropped. Tyler and Drake had projects that got close at times but posters fought this one like no other

rap’s songs in the key of life/sign of the times imo, the way it still has mainstream appeal despite never sacrificing it’s messaging or commentary

It was bad. It was exactly like me morale response except they called it boring.

Mr. Morale has too much radio pandering filler bullshit to ever be a classic. Cut it down to the actually substantial songs like United in Grief, We Cry Together, Mother I Sober and it's up there

DAMN. has much more radio songs and it’s already being looked back as the amazing album it is

Radio appeal is DAMN's whole sound, and it feels like Kendrick was giving it his all, so it works
Songs like Rich Spirit on Mr. Morale feel tacked on and add nothing to the main story of the album. They're also just soulless

Rap discourse in 2015 wasn’t doing kids any favors with the “oldhead vs new gen, soundcloud vs the establishment” discussions that felt so omnipresent

2015-2016 to me are like peak years where the strategy was like as an artist you’re gonna go viral like a motherfucker if you go on a radio show and say something like 2pac sucks or jazz is for white people and of course that’s gonna embed in the minds of kids who don’t have all the necessary context and background
