  • For me , I mean let’s see . My mom did see the value in having the whole family eat dinner together , but it was only her , myself and my oldest younger brother , and it was only something we did for about 7-8 years tops , so no h****but that’s that on that - I almost want to say any impact that might have had on me was negligible .

For different reasons there are times when I think that being the child of divorce was a net positive , but I don’t want to come off as a tryhard , and at the end of the day I would say that I developed some serious issues as a result , so im not sure about that whole thing ,

Growing up in the area I did definitely was a good thing for a kid who was interested in watching sports so that was a plus . I also did not grow up in an inner city ghetto so that was a good thing as well

    Let’s hear it guys

get along with my fam so family dinners were and are usually nice, and i do think it can in part be a good thing. place to say whatever’s on your mind to your family good or bad. if you don’t have a good relationship with the people at the table then it’s fruitless but yea

you know what’s crazy man at least in this country i don’t know if it’s because we are so overly privileged or what - honestly i think that’s what it’s mainly down to is privilege but if you asked the average American whether they get along with even their immediate family ( not to mention in-laws or step whatevers ) but most of us would probably say we don’t get along with any of them except for maybe a sibling or two

yea not sure what fault that is. i guess privilege. i think it more or less goes case by case though, with it all falling on the parents. as an impressionable kid, it’s all about how the parents stress it. if they were always working or never around or used that time to rant about whatever or to put their own kids down, then yea it’s just a failure on the parents.

every kid i know with a f***ed up family usually be the type to HAVE to have a show on or something when eating which to me was always odd. i’ll watch the news or jeopardy something like that when eating, s*** that only ever is really background noise/supplies something real life to talk about.

i do find this to be so interesting though idk why. i can’t tell you exactly what family dinners do in a good way, and they mostly are just an outcome of good parenting, but i still do think it shouldn’t be understated

    Absolutely tons.

Isolating myself for self-protection, reticent to be emotionally close, propping up facades to get by, facing anger with anger as opposed to understanding and patience. Other things too no doubt.

But have worked and am working on these things. Am a good human.

Bro idk why but when you said that s*** about every f***ed up kid needing to eat with a show on, it sounded like a bar to me 💀

I’ve also often eaten with shows on but honestly, I could simply choose not to. It’s just more convenient to do so often and having a distraction is more or less putting your mind on an object or focal point so it doesn’t go wherever it wants. But I’m still the type of person to casually spend time staring into blank space. Do with that info what you will…

yea not saying it’s a bad or good thing, just that i’ve noticed it usually is also linked with never having family dinners and issues with parents
