On this day, 3 years ago, Drake released Scorpion, his fifth studio album and first double album. While it set and shattered several streaming and chart records, to truly appreciate the album, we need to do a general overview of Drake's 2018 — commercially to better understand how dominant of a year it was — perhaps the most dominant year of any rap artist in music history.
Here are some of Drake's achievements in 2018:
today, 3 years ago, I smoked a bowl with a friend, listened to the first 3 songs off of this, said "ya know, you have to admire his ability to write songs so formulaically" and then left shortly after

God I remember being at work when this dropped. We were closing for the night and I was the supervisor so me and my manager played this while we counted the safe and did the paperwork for the night. Got through Side A when we finished.
Went to bed and listened to aside B in the morning
This album also served as the soundtrack to my LA trip that year. Being drunk and singing Ratchet Happy Birthday on the street in Santa Monica is a key memory lmao
Some of my takeaways from Scorpion, 3 years later:
• Survival is one of Drake's best intros. Very underrated. I personally have it as his third best intro after Tuscan Leather and Over My Dead Body.
• Emotionless, it's lyrical content and as a song in general, has aged very well.
• Jaded is a timeless Drake song.
• Nice for What and In My Feelings will be ringing out every summer for years to come.
• After Dark is underrated. It's easily one of the best R&B sounds Drake has ever made.

Scorpion definitely isn't a perfect album but it's a very good album. I feel like it'll age just as well as Views did, if only because of the many standout moments on the album. Like Views, 2 songs on the album defined the summer of an entire year. The rapping on Scorpion is also very solid throughout.
I definitely enjoy and appreciate it more now than the year it dropped because I've had 3 years to keep revisiting it.
Timeless bop.
My top 5 after 3 years, hbu?

finesse the best song on there
out of body song
March 14 still makes me feel shivers. Such a thoughtful track, the feels on every Drake outro are incomparable.
