and im not talking about objectively good rapping like dense rhyme schemes and all that other s***, you can be objectively good and unpleasant to hear on the mic
vocals are an instrument, charisma lyricism cadence flows tones are all proponents of it that makes a great rapper
But on a real note, Kanye is the only artist that’s ever successfully been both.
U telling me a freestyle isn’t art
nah bro you need three shoegaze samples recorded through a potato while u get smacked in the ass and it’s “artistic” and “experimental”
like I kinda get where op originally was trying to get with this thread, like if we rather bump Kanye's "All Of The Lights" or something like super super lyrical that YT comment section loves
but discounting Wayne was the mistake
Also, rapping in general is art. Have you seen how bad the flows on most struggle rappers are? If you just rea our lyrics to a beat it’s not going to sound food. Your cadence and flow go a long way.

I’ve been to real freestyle battle cyphers I know art lol

Kanye and Kendrick
One could argue Lupe
Kanye and Kendrick
One could argue Lupe
I'll say Lupe has been both, while his production wasn't the best he was able to still create enjoyable music that reached towards lots of people
Kanye and Kendrick
One could argue Lupe
Kendrick maybe. Lupe lacks the artistry
Kendrick is both though. There are artists that can do both.
Kendrick
Andre 3000
Frank Ocean
I would’ve put Kanye in there but he isn’t lyrically consistent enough to be considered a top level lyricist.
