yes it was found in a video game, i'd never run a pirated game tho

i have a policy of never downloading an executable from a torrent site, no video games or apps.. doesn't seem worth the risk

video files in theory can still infect you but it's very rare, almost never happens

99% of malware is from .exe, .docx, .csv or .pdf, i work in ransomware/malware prevention deal with this stuff all the time lol

biggest thing I'd watch out for if you're on windows is file that are .mkv.exe (trying to hide that it's really gonna run some bs)

you can even download MKVtoolnix and take a look at the file if you want to be sure

just download the video file never click/download anything else would be my advice

rutracker & torrentgalaxy have lots of stuff and they don't have admins that allowed a cryptominer but it's harder to find high quality content on those sites

there are reliable sources for games aswell, no doubt

i understand there are crack release groups people trust but i'd rather just never risk it for what i do on my pc..

running an executable from any source always carries risks even if it's a confirmed source, you introducing outside variables into your environment

my main point is don't worry about malware/viruses from media files if you're worried

you're 1000x more likely to get it from software (app/video games)
