Before talking about your first point, I’d like to say that we are in an Era of Hip Hop where it’s becoming less of a priority to get a record deal because of how grassroots everything is.

Most new hip hop artists nowadays have independent beginnings because of how accessible rap is.

Its been plenty of independent rappers who went # 1 on Apple music.
Mac Miller broke independent records with Blue Slide Park.
Chance had a historic independent moment for 3 years.
Macklemore Went Platinum As An Independent and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard in a time where Albums weren’t selling.
Its way more prolific independent rappers who sell more and have more influence. You may like Tory but that doesnt make him a big artist going on a crazy run.

There’s varying degrees of independence though which influenced my statement. Some of the guys that you’re mentioning are not ‘as independent’ as tory but that’s irrelevant. Won’t go any further on it.
