It's better bro objectively. Trilogy changed the entire sound of rnb. I guess what I mean by better is it was extremely unique. When I first heard HoB it was unlike anything I had ever heard. The sound was very original and the flows were out of this world on Docs and Illangellos production.

BBTM dawn fm or even lots of songs on starboy at amazing songs, and much more polished and perfected but to me they aren't that unique. Can't feel my face could have been a Bruno Mars song or any other pop artists with a good voice. Does that make sense?

Trilogy sound can't and still hasn't been fully replicated by any other artist since.

I love Trilogy don't get me wrong, House of Balloons is by far one of my favorite projects I've ever heard. Its uniqueness is incredible.

I do see what you mean on BBTM and Starboy, but to me, Dawn FM is so incredibly unique too. There is nothing that has that sound, the upbeat, dance inducing sound with completely depressing lyrics is insane to me.

This quote from GQ always sticks with me

“It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make,” Abel said. That statement would linger in my brain for days. As did the music. It became nearly impossible to find something else to listen to. Everything else sounded soft. Or didn’t groove enough. Or felt too happy. Or too sad. It was clear to me that this isn’t just the album The Weeknd has always wanted to make; it’s the album we’ve always wanted him to make.

Trilogy did NOT change the sound of rnb. Drake and Party did that

Whenever I mention this stans get triggers and say s*** like "he isn't sad anymkre" or he evolved, you're stuck in the past etc.

I think this is a real weird take. Objectively Abels music to this day is still....SAD. his topics are still about betrayal, d****, heart break and sadness.

Literally bro. What evolved? His lyrics didn't tbh. Melodies even on fast beats have similarities to his OG tapes, just higher reguster or slightly different.

He makes the same melancholy music except now he does it on completely different beats.

Why do people always say this s*** ? It's the same content on different production. Some of us just love that rnb sound from trilogy and don't like pop and synth. Simple as that.

Take care to NWTS was evolution
Trilogy to Kissland even was evolution
Nostalgia ultra to channel orange is evolution.

They keep the same foundational sound and grow it and evolve it.

Kissland to bbtm or starboard is literally just switching genres/producers

New fans like the new s*** and that’s all

Trilogy sound can't and still hasn't been fully replicated by any other artist since.

You named the one hit that sounds like another pop star could’ve sung it, and even then not really because of the subject matter.

The Hills couldn’t have been made by anyone but Abel
Often couldn’t have been made by anyone but Abel
Starboy couldn’t have been made by anyone but Abel
Blinding Lights couldn’t have been made by anyone but Abel (other artists have tried to imitate that song since it released, to much lesser results)
Die For You couldn’t have been made by anyone but Abel
Gasoline couldn’t have been made by anyone but Abel

Trilogy is not “objectively” better than anything else he’s released, it’s just more unique. But the pop music Abel makes now is still wholly and entirely unique to him.

The reason why he’s so beloved combined with how massive his stardom has grown is because he found a way to make pop music but also stay true to who he is as an artist. Every single The Weeknd album couldn’t have been made by any other artist besides The Weeknd.

Bruno is extremely talented and has hits on top of hits, but all of his music is just rehashes of older styles and sounds that were popular in the past, and there’s nothing really artistically that makes any song standout as a “Bruno Mars song”, if that makes sense.

    Yep.

However, there’s a case to be made that Trilogy changed the pop sound, after it was released, every pop artists wanted to go darker, have a more mature and mysterious image etc.
