I like his new stuff just as much as I liked his old stuff when it came out. Can’t imagine old Weeknd making Snowchild, Escape from LA, Out of Time, others. Doubt I’d listen to an artist for a decade who didn’t switch it up.

He’s interesting because it would have been so easy to just double down on the things that made trilogy trilogy and naturally end up at an advanced version of that

Still waiting for that scrapped Nirvana rock album from before beauty before the madness

I've been on here since ktt qeeknd thread. Making demos for an album right now. Inspired by trilogy but with my own style. Would love to know what a weeknd FSN like u thinks of my demos.

Op is right. It's not like Abel's subject matter really changed he just doesn't overtly reference d*** use and I would even say his lyrics and songwriting has improved since 2013. But once he signed he had to repackage "The Weeknd" into something more marketable hence why he makes a more mainstream friendly moody synth pop/trap rnb music

  • he absolutely does reference d*** use

the new s*** still good but ye i'd prefer he went back to his old sound touch up on that

  • It's time to grow up and move on.

After hours he touched on it and evolved it imo, mdm as well

trilogy saved my life, but kiss land.. kiss land changed my life

I love Trilogy don't get me wrong, House of Balloons is by far one of my favorite projects I've ever heard. Its uniqueness is incredible.

I do see what you mean on BBTM and Starboy, but to me, Dawn FM is so incredibly unique too. There is nothing that has that sound, the upbeat, dance inducing sound with completely depressing lyrics is insane to me.

This quote from GQ always sticks with me

“It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make,” Abel said. That statement would linger in my brain for days. As did the music. It became nearly impossible to find something else to listen to. Everything else sounded soft. Or didn’t groove enough. Or felt too happy. Or too sad. It was clear to me that this isn’t just the album The Weeknd has always wanted to make; it’s the album we’ve always wanted him to make.

Deep dive into some 1980s synth pop my boy.

Trilogy will probably always be top tier. Kiss land was amazing and under appreciated. Then he struggled a bit in my opinion. BBTM and starboy were good, not great. But he’s really come back around in a strong way and MDM was good and AH and Dawn FM are extremely solid.
