Honestly it wasn’t that bad, it was just mid at worst. Lots of plotholes

that’s exactly how i felt it’s like they just kept adding adding stuff with no end

The callbacks to season 1 just made this feel like fan fiction, like HBO’s Watchmen show but s***tier. Probably would not have finished it if it hadn’t been so short.

Started this last night. Didn't know quite how to feel about it.

I can see the reactionaries and chuds saying Woke Detective and it kinda did feel shoe horned and not anywhere near the realm of s01 but this is more HBO's fault for turning this into American Horror Story and not just letting season 1 live alone as a goat miniseries.

I suppose I will sit out the other 5 eps just to see what it has to offer

There was a Reddit thread about this and HBO essentially trying to do some corrective reprogramming and as tin hat as it sounds I don't think its far off

Rewatched season 3. It feels a little slow if you know the mystery already but I still enjoyed it (apart from Carmen Ejogo’s accent slipping every other sentence).

Also tried to rewatch season 2 and it was kind of worse than I remembered. Dialogue was so horrendous I gave up in the middle of the fourth episode. I still admire the risk he took doing something completely different than season 1 but woof.

  • Finished it last night. Didn't love it. Didn't actively hate it.

Gonna need more interesting leads to get me back next season

Yep. He’s great in it. Stephen Dorff, too.

  • Going through season 1 again. Is there a behind the scenes for the one-take? S*** was incredible

  • Finished S1 rewatch. Damn, I forgot about that last scene in the final episode. Packs an emotional punch.

  • I'll come back to this next year and finally watch S4 lol

The amount of awful dialogue in season 2 is crazy. Combine that with poor writing for the characters and the s*** is damn near unwatchable.

    Reading now. Good lookin out

  • Watched everything except S2.

    S1 - 4.5/5

It's the landmark season for a reason, and has been funnier on rewatch.

    S3 - 4/5

The best looking season imo. Some of the shots they get here are downright gorgeous. First time watching this, I thought it was forgettable, but it's actually really underrated on rewatch. The reason it doesn't get much love is because it doesn't have that propulsive quality that S1 had in its writing and pacing. Also, your mileage may vary with the relationship stuff in this, but I enjoyed it. The finale or reveal is not as exciting as the build up tho, but I gotta give props to Pizza for interweaving three timelines and making it so easy to follow. This season might get me into learning about cinematography ngl.

    Night Country - 3.5/5

I dug this and I didn't know what to expect after the mixed reaction. It's not perfect by any means, and the main characters end up making one baffling decision after another as the show nears its final moments. Still, I thought Jodie Foster and Kali did good in their roles. The best part is the atmosphere, but best looking season still goes to 3.

Next to S1, S4 just seems like a different show, and I can't help but treat it as one. The theory that it didn't start off as TD makes sense when you get to inspect the season closely. I'm also not surprised that it has the highest viewership: Navarro and Danvers are way less complex than Rust and Marty. Same goes with how the themes are handled. As a cop show, Night Country fails as it leaves the kind of plot holes that you don't leave unanswered in such shows, hoping the viewer doesn't think too much about it, coupled with reveals that make no sense. As a drama though? It's alright. Gets the job done.

The biggest difference between S1 and 4 is that S1 is a cop show that just so happens to have drama in it, whereas S4 is a drama that just so happens to have cops in it.
