    heres a source

The Trump administration on Friday finalized a rule that would remove nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people when it comes to health care and health insurance.

"HHS respects the dignity of every human being, and as we have shown in our response to the pandemic, we vigorously protect and enforce the civil rights of all to the fullest extent permitted by our laws as passed by Congress," said Roger Severino, who directs the Office for Civil Rights in the Department of Health and Human Services, in a written statement announcing that the HHS rule had become final. The rule is set to go into effect by mid-August.
    (CAPPPPPPP)

It is one of many rules and regulations put forward by the Trump administration that defines "sex discrimination" as only applying when someone faces discrimination for being male or female, and does not protect people from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Supporters of the new rule said this is a necessary reversal of Obama-era executive overreach and will reduce confusion about the legal meaning of "sex discrimination." Critics argue the rule could further harm an already vulnerable group — transgender people — in the midst of a pandemic and historic unrest spurred by the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.

if it is true that the stipulation that Donald Trump changed, prevents transgender people from receiving healthcare, then that is morally wrong.

However, this stipulation was tied into abortion rights. A healthcare provider should not be forced to perform abortions. That's why I am ecstatic at Donald Trump's political move here.

From what I understand, this change will prevent health care insurers from being forced to cover Gender Confirmation Surgery. This surgery does not give a transgender person the sexual organ they desire. This surgery is a crude approximation of a natal sexual organ. Many insurers cover GCS regardless of this change.

I do not believe that this change that Donald Trump has made can in fact be used to deny trans people adequate healthcare.

Interestingly, NPR cites an example that a trans man with ovarian cancer could be denied treatment. While this may technically be the case, the reality that this stipulation would be used by a provider to deny treatment is farfetched. Also, when a natal female takes doses of testosterone, that can actually cause ovarian cancer. There are many health complications from natal women taking testosterone. It is not for the faint of heart. It is a total rewiring, crudely, of an endocrine system, to match an otherwise nonbioidentical body

What do you mean healthcare provider should not be forced to perform abortions?

You mean the actual medical specialist? If you're working in a state where it's legal and a patient comes to you, it's your job/duty.

“Under the new rule, a transgender person could, for example, be refused care for a checkup at a doctor's office, said Lindsey Dawson, associate director of HIV policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation.“

yes, I read that. but I don't believe that is true. while it could empower a doctor to refuse to treat a transgender person, a doctor could only refuse to treat nonbio-gender ailments. this would open the doctor up to litigation and be costly for the doctor.

it's a technicality that is interesting but doesn't make sense. a transgender person has a right to be treated according to their natal gender, according to the amendment Donald trump has made.

if this causes transgender ppl to die from not receiving adequate care I would be surprised but also upset.

a medical provider in my opinion should be allowed to refuse to perform abortion.
