I will admit I dont really like that area of shoegaze much so maybe I really am just a glow on hater
I think Glow On may have some shoegaze qualities at some points but overall it’s mainly a hardcore rock album. The lyrics are clear, the guitar chops are like power chords, everything hits with a punch
Sky Hundred Id say really sets to become a shoegaze album. It’s also just one guy doing everything on midi. It’s more of a distorted dreamy mess with less intelligible lyrics and I think that’s what makes it more shoegaze

its not hardcore whatsoever, come on lmao, but whatever you want to call that I dont like it unfortunately. I think fiddlehead operates the space well at least
that feeling when u know an album gonna be special to your life and future memories and feelings

Idk then, yeah you’re right their albums before Glow were the actual hardcore albums

Glow on is more hardcore than it is shoegaze lol. A lil psych-hardcore is how i describe it

yeah it was jarring on sunday when they went from the old stuff to never enough lol. but in a dope way. and I think it was speed right before them to make it more of a whiplash

its just not hardcore though, even chill hardcore and psych influenced hardcore is a completely different sound. call it whatever though I guess I just dont like glow on overall lol I like this album a lot more
So real for this
Keep hearing other bands/genres in this album
so many influences

I mean sure, as a hc fan idk why hardcore fans are so strict with their classifications when its a pretty simple sound lol. There is plenty of hardcore soul in glow on. Just as much as there are other influences. It definitely isnt shoegaze though.
Kinda confused how you dont like glow on but are liking this hahaha but i guess that goes back to my thought of as similar as glow on and never enough are theyre also pretty different

i love it honestly one of my fav things about music is hearing influence
I just can’t finish this album I don’t have it in me. Look down the tracklist and see a Kodak/mgk song and I gotta shake my head

wrong thread i think
light design incredible
honestly loving 1-5, fantastic run
dull and sunshower are fire but for me it picks back up at 8 with look out for me then the run from 8-14 is magic
I get viewing it as a sequel but im hoping it ends up just feeling more like its own thing
if you liked glow on that much how did you feel about sky hundred by parranoul? I felt like it was just a far better version of exactly what glow on was trying to be
I'll check it out. I'm very out of touch with modern rock so i never heard it before. I've tried Knocked Loose and other popular hardcore bands and none clicked for me
Before I rant, I want to say it’s still a good album overall.
However, this felt like it was trying too hard to recreate the magic of Glow On. I could even hear what specific songs they were pulling from on some of the tracks here. It’s also really similar as far as a production standpoint, and that’s fine because it sounds good, but it doesn’t help as far as trying to differentiate from Glow On. I imagine it would be hard to deviate too far from an album that 10x’ed their popularity, especially since it was a unique sound to them and it wasn’t some sellout moves that got em big.
IDK maybe I’m just the old punk that everyone makes fun of for only liking the old stuff

ive seen you in some other threads i think you'll f*** with turnstile. knocked loose never did it for me either tbh
Feel like I don't immediately dig this one as much as I did GLOW ON when I heard it. Some cool stuff on here tho
oh Dudvider

its very obvious. i feel like its intentional and honestly a more refined version of glow on. and as i've listened throughout the day the differences have become more clear. but yeah i mean still theyre directly pulling melodies and structure from glow on and like you're saying i can't really fault them for it, its clearly their new sound they're trying to stick with. i'm loving this a lot and i loved glow on a lot and i loved the albums before a lot too.
i appreciate their change and while it would have been nice to see a bit more expansion artistically but i think this does the job still while expanding on something that really clicked for them in glow on's sound. and its a pretty solid album.
the visual definitely helped for a first listen though i can't lie. i went in blind without listening to any singles besides never enough (which i felt was derivative but i've come around to it) and idk it really all hit immediately.
although as much as i'm enjoying it i can't help but wish they pushed it just a little further with some new sounds.

I'm liking it a lot so far. Turnstile definitely more my taste but I have a very hyper specific taste in rock it's hard to find bands that click
Just found out about this band a few weeks ago. Loving:
Seein Stars
Underwater Boi
Alien Love Call
was literally thinking that they should stick to this sound more while seeing stars was playing
easily their top tracks
I'll check it out. I'm very out of touch with modern rock so i never heard it before. I've tried Knocked Loose and other popular hardcore bands and none clicked for me
Kl ain't for everybody though they've gotten massive. Not my favorite metal core right now at all. Wounded touch had a much better album this year I feel like
I'd actually turn you to the new gridiron album first and foremost. The sky hundred album was very well received last year but isn't hardcore
Speed is an amazing up and coming hc band I saw open for knocked loose last year, then I saw them at tied down last weekend
Drain is a hardcore band I think most people would genuinely like too, less heavy than the ones I mentioned above
Kaonashi idk if you'd like but I feel like mentioning them cause they're unique and I love them. But theu do Elmo vocals like KL
If you like the new wave of pop punk that sounds different from old pop punk, I would recommend Ms. Paint and militarie gun
Show me the body is experimental to the point where they are basically considered art punk, but they definitely use a lot of hardcore elements in comparison to bands like idles or yard act

I'll take notes and check out everything you said I'm sure something will hit. There's some releases today I havnt gotten to yet like Cherie Amour and Little Simz lol. I really appreciate it
