Before I rant, I want to say it’s still a good album overall.

However, this felt like it was trying too hard to recreate the magic of Glow On. I could even hear what specific songs they were pulling from on some of the tracks here. It’s also really similar as far as a production standpoint, and that’s fine because it sounds good, but it doesn’t help as far as trying to differentiate from Glow On. I imagine it would be hard to deviate too far from an album that 10x’ed their popularity, especially since it was a unique sound to them and it wasn’t some sellout moves that got em big.

IDK maybe I’m just the old punk that everyone makes fun of for only liking the old stuff

to me it feels more like a natural progression from glow on as opposed to a rehashed version trying to capture its magic. they're not reinventing the wheel but the run from sunshower-seeing stars is amazing and distinguished from glow on

  • That lil synth at the end of I Care is stuck in my head

  • honestly listneing to glow on and never enough back to back its odd how similar but how completely different they sound.

    Haven’t really stopped playing this

I think it’s only slightly worse than Glow On but only when it comes to those hard hitting tracks, like when I listen to the first like 5-6 tracks on Glow they hit so HARD. There’s def some hard hitting tracks here like Sole, Dull, Dreaming, Sunshower, Birds and Slowdive which would’ve fit well on Glow On. I think they’re ā€œsofterā€ songs got better. I REALLY like I Care and Seein Stars. It’s slightly diff sound than their softer songs on Glow like Underwater boi and alien love call. Actually Magic Man reminds me of Alien Love Call a lot.

Overall they’re such similar projects, but I think Glow On does go a bit harder on some of the aggressive songs. It’s such a minute difference to me tho. There’s still so much incredible musical details in this album, like listening to Sole rn and the outro with the synth stuff like that.

Gave it a relisten and I haven’t changed much on my thoughts. I hate the fact that there’s a part in the middle of the album, from the last (over) half of Look Out For Me, and into Ceiling is a stretch of 4:30 where basically nothing happens. I know the synth interludes and outros can be neat, but that is such a long stretch that it really makes me disengaged from the album.

Funny enough Look Out For Me is still one of my favorites because the 2:30 where it’s actually a song it’s so fire Slowdive is another fav

i personally love that stretch but i also totally get what you're saying. theres no guitar for a WHILE it feels kind of weird. the spacey-ness of the synth gets me lost sometimes so i dont notice it but when i do i definitely do. its a nice cooldown on one hand.
