Dune, Wild At Heart and The Return are my fave for some reason
recent rewatch confirmed Eraserhead is top 4 as well
For sure, but that's a given with the type of films he makes. They're all distinctively him but all have their own flair. I personally enjoy Mulholland Drive & Lost Highway the most, but i have yet to finish Twin Peaks S2 + S3 and FWWM
mulholland drive and highway are good standalone films to me but for lynch its too much confusing s***
blue velvet had the perfect balance of confusion and reality grounding
I understand. Happens sometimes. I personally was bored to death watching Tarkovskys Stalker and never seen another film by him after that so far. Just didn't care about everything that's supposed to make it good because i didn't enjoy watching it
well Tark is different because he usually tries to achieve the feeling halfway between sleeping and being awake and hes said that if you fall asleep to thing like Stalker then he takes it as a compliment. Ive fallen alseep it it at least a handful of times... takes a strong dose of shrooms to stayed glued to the screen for that one.
I would STRONGLY recommend checking out Zerkalo (a top 5 oat for me) because it has a totally different vibe and structure. Still dreamy but with alot more energy and way more fluid narrative that allows you to just let the whole thing wash over you

cant be unbiased with eraserhead because i watched it before i became a huge lynch fan and that s*** was

I don't really agree because it wasn't confusing to the point of it getting annoying. Better yet, MD & LH were both pretty easy to follow once you wrap your head around the central plot and themes going on, while still giving you new subtle things to notice. That makes them more rewatchable for me than any other film of his
seen em all
IE was amazing
Inland Empire the only Lynch film where i really don't know wtf was going on but, i have only seen it one time and it was pretty recently. That hallway phantom scene f***ed me uppppppppppp
also, i still really loved it btw

I mean sure but something like 2001, or for a more recent example Under The Skin both achieve the same hypnotic feel for me while still keeping me engaged. For Stalker it was just pure boredom all throughout. I've heard too many great things about Tarkovsky to end my journey there, but you could say watching another feature film of his feels so intimidating given my experience with Stalker

well you could always start out at his first film. its easy. still had to come off as propaganda to get a budget so its pretty interesting to see his early subversions.
On my first watch. Just started season 2 right now. This show is wild af lmao Audrey bad af
wowww that 4h Tidal playlist with music inspired by Twin Peaks real af

Also im loving this season far more than season 1 so far, lots of more weird stuff happening

i would say pretty much where you are until like ep 19 it definitely gets a little meh. if anything it just feels aimless
not nearly as bad as people make it out tho

i mean i enjoy the characters so i'll probably still enjoy the rest. The last few episodes they really started showing more of all the supernatural stuff and i'm really loving that aspect
Can't wait to get to FWWM & season 3, i have never seen something get so much praise in the reviews on Letterboxd than The Return

FWWM, The Return and the last 3-4 episodes of S2 are immaculate I’m jealous

look at my brother flyhiii go. fly high and enjoy
Got 17 days before TP: the return leaves the streaming service I’m watching this on
Good incentive to finally get through s2

Is there any other work of Lynch where you could compare The Return to? I've heard of so many people who were long time TP fans that seemed putt off by it, while also many others are saying it might be one of the best pieces of media ever made
I love watching this show with my gf, because i'm never able to watch a series by myself since i always prefer to peep a film. But she mainly loves TP for the soap opera stuff and quirky characters
Me on the other hand, i can't wait for Lynch to go full surreal and abstract. Because although i do really enjoy TP, it isn't all that weird watching it in 2021

It subverts expectations and people who can't keep up probably get put off by it
Also i hate every single scene with Josie, she's by far my least fav character in TP

If she likes twin peaks because it’s a soap she probably won’t like the return
If you like twin peaks cause it’s weird and cause of the characters then you’ll like the return
I can’t really liken it to other work by Lynch honestly. It really is just it’s own incredible thing

same lmao

I'm aware of the tone switch and am anticipating FWWM & The Return to be much darker than the first 2 seasons. So that's not gonna be much of an issue
Would you consider The Return to be as hard to follow as let's say Inland Empire? It's probably the only film by Lynch that i can't make sense of. Still love it a lot though
