    What did she say

And then she gave an activist Grammy speech

So I can see why people look to her for political takes because she publicly shares her views on activism and politics

She started talking about politics, from donating merch sales to Palestine, to not endorsing anyone during the election, to advocating for labels to take care of artists across their life time. No one foisted this expectation on her. She did it. No one asked her. Stop being obtuse I'm a gay woman btw

You saying it’s because she’s been political is dif than saying as a gay woman her existence is politicized therefore she has to be in depth with her political opinions that’s super harmful and silly
Not endorsing someone in the election isn’t some political stance. Talking about the music industry and donating to genocide does not make you obligated to have political opinions on everything for people to get up in arms about.

I mean yeah but she was just speaking her mind idk why people get so upset at that. She's a horrible communicator but she never said anything egregious. And the grammy speech isn't inherently political

I find it more strange that nobody criticize artists who endorse politicians with 0 explanation behind it like Taylor Swift or whoever

Yeah I don't think she deserves harsh criticism for it really but it's a little weak

No one is going to Chappell with a microphone telling her to speak on x y z & the whole alphabet everytime something happens. & no, these aren't different in a world where trans women are becoming undocumented in Texas as we speak. This is why some lgbtq people think they can just Be Normal (aka be centrists or fall to the right). These people don't care about us, & now we assent to acting like them to protect the modicum of rights we should just have.

I'm expecting people who carry a lot of social & literal capital who garner so much visibility to not be dumbasses, yeah. Or risk keeping the same structures in place, but hey because theyre popstars, why expect anything except for them to shut up, dance, & serve c*** right? Not like women stopped being paid less or anything

The grammy speech not being inherently political in a nation that has spent like a third of its life discrediting socialism & communism is crazy

As right as she be, working and struggling 2025 Americans aren’t gonna be sympathetic about a famous young American white woman complaining about how hard being a celebrity is

The medium is the message. But she’s not wrong

    Exactly.

I dont think that's what she was getting at. she was positioning her as a part of the working class and how it's difficult for her and other workers to work and stay politically literate on matters which is why she wouldn't call herself an expert and why people shouldn't be looking to her for politics

yeah that makes total sense, i just would offer that she needs to be more self aware in the sense that “does she work?” absolutely she’s super talented and did the work to get herself where she is.

but is she working class in the same way an electrician is? no not at all

    This is my issue

Like she positions herself as someone who is politically aware

Then when she gets questioned or gets any criticism based on that she is like "relax I'm a popstar..."

You can't really do both and people aren't randomly attaching these things to her

    this ^

she’s positioned herself for those questions

Well first of all they don't exactly encourage immigration (or emigration for that matter). Secondly gay rights aren't exactly encouraged
