I don't think anybody deserves to die over material goods, but when there's a robbery and the robber jumps over the counter towards me, I'm going to fear for my safety and defend myself.
You can't say he overreacted because of the number of stabs since he stopped stabbing him once he went limp and then called for help for him.

Still in the court of the law, this is not considered self defense. I'm pretty sure this falls under defense of property laws in Nevada since the robbers never threatened to do harm or did harm to him. He could still get arrested and sued especially after the reddit thread he made

It is defense of property because he was defending his property from being taken. Never once was the store owner threatened directly by the robber and he admitted he didn't think they had weapons on his reddit post which is now deleted.
