Ok, totally understand, thats my bad, being African is definitely not a specific race, more of a nationality. Im just saying, as the artist, its more important for Tyla to educate herself on black culture in America, then it is for her to try and re-educate black Americans on what the term "coloured" means in America.
We're African Americans, try to understand us so you can make better art for all.
Maybe stop being so damn self centered and respect that other places have different value and different classifications of things
You are doubling down on a stereotype that african americans are dumb because AMERICANS didn't identify her as something deemed negative in their country.
You've made it pretty clear that you don't care about african americans culture while trying to force them to care about her being mixed
Here is the thing we know it has negative context in America but to say that she is distancing herself from her blackness by saying she's coloured which she is and she's not black which she isn't, how does that sound to you. Then the appropriation debacle, then the expectation of her accepting that she's black in America when she isn't. Is that calculator responding.

I respect it, i understand what your saying completely. But she wants to come to America and call herself coloured in a room full of black people
You got it “im not black im mixed” is kinda hilarious
I've been saying she's not black my God lord jesus
Imagine if Obama called himself "coloured", he would not have won that election
I respect it, i understand what your saying completely. But she wants to come to America and call herself coloured in a room full of black people
and??
i don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape about how other people choose to identify. if this mixed girl wants to be called mixed/coloured, then i don’t see the issue

But she is omg they may feel some type of way but she's coloured.
and??

Idc anymore, she has her audience for this type of stuff, peace out
She still black
She is as black as she is Asian as she is European as she is Arab so when travels to these places she has to she's what they comfortable with instead of who she is boy please she isn't black
Imagine if Obama called himself "coloured", he would not have won that election
He's from America not SA
Imagine if Obama called himself "coloured", he would not have won that election
He is American
In reference to your other example given on this page, Drake is Canadian
They were socialized in a specific area of the world in which that term's usage is frowned upon, whereas in Tyla's birth country it has a specific meaning
Comparing two North Americans to a South African makes literally no sense unless you're just trying to get jokes off rn
She is as black as she is Asian as she is European as she is Arab so when travels to these places she has to she's what they comfortable with instead of who she is boy please she isn't black
She gonna check white on her Census, before she checks black
mods lock other threads quicker but leave ignorant s*** like this up
man you cant make this up
She can go back to South Africa, and sell her music specifically in South Africa, if she feels the need to call Americans "wrong". Why do artist feel like the consumer has to bow to them?
You serious? Lol

This my last time responding to you.
Whatever tyla wants to be called is fine. What isn't fine is you using using her identity to push a common racist stereotype which is that african americans are uneducated and couldn't name 5 african countries.
As someone who claims to be a "black african" you should understand that seeing how black African were seen as the african americans of south africa
How are you guys not getting this, like how and yall don't want to call her what she is because you not comfortable then not call her AFRICAN because you assume she's ashamed of her African roots but want to call her something she's not by force. Make that make sense.

I get what you're trying to get at, but they would definitely be calling her Black in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East lol and likely be racist af to her the same way they are to Black people
You serious? Lol
I understand the stance, in South Africa, she considers herself "coloured" I get it. African Americans can take it or leave it, but to call herself "coloured" in America, as far as her image goes, is just saying she's not black(which she has confirmed).
Hate it or love it, you have to respect it, but im not a fan of the phrase.
