Tyler's superiority over J. Cole as a lyricist was made like so crystal clear when Off Season and CMIGYL dropped within 2 months of each other.

But like others have said the whole "big 3" thing is also a nostalgia thing and indicative of who was big in 2012, and Tyler was still an outsider at that point

I agree that his rapping ability really stepped up after IGOR, but he sharpened his sword very quick

For me personally id say The Off Season raps are better than CMIYGL but I’ve also cooled off on CMIGLY standard significantly since it dropped so maybe that’s just me

Yeah it’s not as far off some people would say. The more I think about it the difference is just that they rap about different things. At that point it’s all preference

I’m probably taking most Tyler songs and albums over cole’s in almost any situation bc they mean way more to me but I think I would still rate cole as a better rapper by the old head definition overall

Tyler is a BORING ASS RAPPER who raps about boring ass s*** and just because he's improved how he curates his albums, it doesn't warrant his inclusion in the discussion of the overall greats. Y'all can't remember a single song from Call Me When You Turn 18 without looking at the tracklist.
