It changes everything. First of all, it will increase interest in space exploration. Aliens will become a political issue. There will be arguments for and against contacting them, or if we already have...whole different ballgame. Space colonization would go crazy. S***-tier countries like Russia that have the world in a stranglehold with nuclear warheads and not much else would lose their bargaining power and probably collapse.
The implication that we are not alone would answer one of the greatest philosophical questions in human history.
