"Like the original series, the new Good Times grapples with important topics through the perspective of a Black family living in Chicago. “Each episode actually has a theme to it that can apply to everyone,” said Shepard. Expect to see frank and funny conversations about elections, first periods, poverty, women’s empowerment, coded bias, and technology. As Shepard said, the show is “a universal conversation that we’re able to have with this beautiful family who come into your homes. And while we’re having it, we make you laugh and we make you smile.”"
Niggas calling this “coonery” are concerned about a white gaze. Ain’t no way around it.
I don’t need or want some high brow humor on the black experience. I’m more than ok with niggas doing stupid s***. This isn’t the only “black” content I consume, so having a space for this is perfectly fine.
Ayo f*** Seth McFarlane for doing this.
F*** Steph Curry for cosigning.
F*** Netflix for okaying this.
And f*** anybody giving this sham of a show a hatewatch.
Can’t believe my wifey Cree is apart of this 🦝
Like…frfr. That trailer had me DISGUSTED. This is what happens when you have no black people in these rooms (or better yet: this is what happens when you only have lena waithe type black ppl in these rooms)
F*** errbody dawg.
You’re an idiot.
You’re an idiot.
but calling niggas that been watching good times since they was single digits "nu black" isn't idiotic.
Whatever dog lol.
So are niggas mad bc of the satire content or bc of the name?
Content wise it doesn’t look any different from other cartoons from the past like boondocks, pjs, bebe’s kids
But then again I think if ANY of those 3
Shows premiered today niggas would be hating it too
Facts. These niggas claim not to be “nu blacks” but act just like them. Then wonder why black creatives don’t have the freedom to create some s*** with niggas just being niggas in this case from the trailers of course it’s comedically exaggerated, but the point still stands.
P****.
Bruh you riding hard af for this show
There is not an ounce of funny in that trailer

idgaf bout no white gaze. make some new IP if you wanna do a show like this but don't attach it to a beloved staple and not expect people to feel a way about it

I didn’t laugh not a once watching the trailer but imma watch a few episodes to give it a chance, rather than crying bout nothing cause I’m worried how white people gonna take it.

you not allowed to criticize a black show (that was produced by white folks) because....white people.
niggas need to start reading books fam lol.
What major show you know that’s predominantly black, that ain’t have no white producers on it?
Y’all Twitter types will cancel a show before you even watch episode 1. Yall did the same thing with Them on Amazon. Now 2 years later clips of the show were going viral and people were asking damn “what show was this? Why ain’t we get more of this?” Goofy ass niggas man.

If Good Times came out today as is, niggas would boycott it.
Stop hiding behind that weak excuse.
I just said that, my actual reason was the trailer wasn’t funny, the animation is whatever, and the “ hahaha concentrate” tier jokes on source material of a show that was much more than just low brow comedy (like I also mentioned itt, before John Amos walked off the cast cause he was fighting for what it was supposed to be)
And you just keep calling us “nu blacks” like…if we gon be using ad hominens and not engage with the fair criticisms ppl are saying, can we up our terms past 2018 twitter?

Before or after john amos left?
A lot of yall gotta rewatch it, that michael black jesus episode still a timeless classic

John Amos who notoriously only f***ed white women.
If I was being generous, I could say that this show has an opportunity to highlight some of the real lasting affects of systemic racism and poverty. we have the fourth generation of the Evans family living in the same apartment as their predecessors. I watched the original Good Times, I actually grew up on this show because my family loved it, it's what my mom and her family watched when she was growing up. The Evans family was broker than broke.
The first minute of the trailer for the new show is straight jokes throughout, if you find it funny, more power to ya. I really actually wanted to speak more on the second half of the trailer which tries to strike a sort of balance of "yes, we're being very funny and tongue and cheek but we also have something to say" and I admit, I'm curious how they tackle that angle.

Once again deflecting, I see you aint come to this discussion with a sincere case. You have fun dawg lol
