Music business is slimey AF. The artist are the ones that have to change it but they can't keep signing the same BS.
I agree but artist are paid royalties on the work that is technically the label paying them for the art
But it kind of sucks that an artist can't monetize their own recordings outside of the label.
If an artist wants to use their own song in a documentary or play it on a Versuz battle, they should be allowed to. And the label just gets their cut. Instead of having to ask for permission.
Which is why I think the masters ownership should be "split" (If possible) or the transfer should be explicitly paid for. That way if the artist gives it away, that's their problem.
Labels should be a service that artists use to distribute and promote their music
Labels should not OWN artists or their music
A record deal is a mutual agreement between company and artist. Artists should try to get better deals or just dont sign. Ktt wants labels to pay for everything and get a thank you
I want labels to pay for s*** and take a cut not give the artist their allowance
Not really lol
They’re the money
The money that gets the artists music from the artist to the consumer
Aka
Middlemen
the artists aren’t the ones who’ve been in business this long. you’re making it seem like artists are reincarnated with memory of their past lives every time they sign a deal with labels.
it’s new artists with no knowledge of the industry signing with labels who’ve been predatory for decades. of course they don’t know better, and the labels know this. that’s why they go after those types of people to sign in the first place. the label does know better though and takes full advantage wherever it can.
you’re literally victim blaming the artists for getting duped by predatory legal practices from labels who you acknowledge have been perfecting their predatory crafts for decades.
just lock this thread before you make yourself look like even more of a fool.
It's 2020 how hard is it to do research. If I signed with Cash Money and got ripped off right now would I not look like a fool.
Labels are slimey but people have to take responsibility for their actions.
Look at when Budden was talking to Yachty and he didn't know who he was signed to. That is not okay on both the label and on Yachty
Labels should be a service that artists use to distribute and promote their music
Labels should not OWN artists or their music
Thats dumb then artists would have to pay labels for services
@op didn’t lie.
Some of these artists wouldnt be here if it wasnt for label payola.
These artists knew exactly what they were doing when they signed their contracts and sold their souls. It’s impossible for me to feel sorry for any of them.
Y’all ever wonder why even though the recording process and the distribution process have been streamlined to make it as cheap as possible to the individual, it’s still big label backed artists like Roddy or Baby that create these big cultural moments?
The response is money, a s*** load of money. If the product in itself was the only thing that mattered first and foremost, a huge part of the successful niggas would be just talented indie artists.
nah he’s worse. he’s a blue lives matter typa guy. probably even says white lives matter to be edgy too.
artist of all races get f***ed over. Y
ou both showed your ignorance with that statement. You don't know a thing about what I stand for or represent in race.
If I pay you to make my house. I provide all the supplies materials, etc.. but you create the design and build the house. It's still my house right?
So if the value increase and I make a profit off of it why would I give the builder a dime of the money made off of my house
Because I f***ing made the house lol. Without the artist there isn't a hit
Thats dumb then artists would have to pay labels for services
There are ways to make it affordable and not exploitative
You can have the label invent in you in the first year or two and then if you made enough money you can buy your masters back
Because I f***ing made the house lol. Without the artist there isn't a hit
I own a house the value is going up when I sell that s***. I dam sure aint given the guy that made it a cent and neither would you.

Black artists are preyed on in the music industry more than white artists
There are ways to make it affordable and not exploitative
Not that way then only artists with money would get exposure
Artists still need labels as much as labels need them. Pure talent doesnt make money
labels be like “here’s a $200k advance for your album, but you have to pay it back within a year or that debt doubles annually. also, all our promo guys are busy promoting bigger artists, so they can’t promote you right now. you could release your album without the promo, but you won’t make anything close to $200k profit to pay us back, so that’s a bad idea. there’s not an opening for your promo until 4 years from now, so you’re just gonna have to wait until then. and no, we won’t freeze the annually doubling debt you owe us during this time.” and op be like “labels deserve more”
Thats dumb then artists would have to pay labels for services
It’s called licensing and the label gets a cut of profit for a set period of time
It’s what Drake does now
The label doesn’t have ownership they’re basically getting an x year period in which they can also profit off the music so have incentive to push the music
The money that gets the artists music from the artist to the consumer
Aka
Middlemen
That’s not what a middleman is. Middlemen don’t bring anything to the table outside of relationships and don’t risk anything.
You literally cannot be a middleman if you put up your money or bring a product to the artist (which they 100% do) to make the product popular. Using your definition, every marketing company or wing for literally every product are middlemen.
Not that way then only artists with money would get exposure
Artists still need labels as much as labels need them. Pure talent doesnt make money
Labels are scum, there is a better way to do all that
Black artists are preyed on in the music industry more than white artists
Very true but all I said was artist are not entitled to masters. Not that they should be put into bad contracts its two different things
It's 2020 how hard is it to do research. If I signed with Cash Money and got ripped off right now would I not look like a fool.

Look at when Budden was talking to Yachty and he didn't know who he was signed to. That is not okay on both the label and on Yachty
“it’s Yachty’s fault that an experienced predator in the music industry took advantage of him without him realizing” yea great point dude. keep making yourself look like a jackass, you’re really making some great points in this thread
