Xeno X has the greatest open world to this day
Nothing really like it. Specially after getting your flight license for Skells,
Ngl XCX for me has had the highest learning curve. Xenoblade always been wonky in terms of how far you can push your character to break the game, but seems to be the way they want you to play this game in particular. I like a good slugfest, don’t like 1 shot builds, but unless you invest in the limited ways to completely nullify damage, when you’re tyrant hunting, they will just wipe you and your party out in 1 shot.
I want that too, but the gaming community would turn that sweaty, so I question how casual multiplayer would come back.
Rank and unranked modes have to be equally fun. Halo did it well with custom games
Spent some time this weekend trying Breath of the Wild for the first time.
I absolutely refuse to believe this is the game that got the hype it did for the last X years
i'm also playing it for the first time and getting towards the end and i agree. i'd still probably give it a 8/10 or something, so i'm enjoying my time, but it's nowhere near what i expected. i genuinely find the open world to be pretty barren and uninteresting to explore. some of the puzzles are a fun challenge but others are so simple that they just feel like a waste of time. the story is whatever tbh. i can see why this game was revered so highly upon release, especially for people who've played zelda's before, but it's my first zelda and i've played countless open world games that feel the same. there is a level of creative freedom that is pretty special though

Story and narrative are the least important part of a game
Games are meant to be played. Your fingers are meant to press the buttons in increasingly difficult and complex ways. Your brain is meant to intuit and master the systems and puzzles. It’s meant to be something you drive forward, something that will stand still if you don’t push it harder and harder. There is nothing worse than games that are meant to be “experiences” that you just sit back and watch.
Bloodborne is the platonic ideal for a video game (NOT A HOT TAKE). Every single input is deliberate and connected.
For this reason I dislike games like last of us, bioshock, rdr2. I don’t like going along with a big arcing story, it feels unsatisfying and unearned
Which one?
the good one

This is why Super Metroid was so important. Took the concept of "pure cinema" and applied it to the videogame medium.

Yup. The best video games to me are the ones where im most engaged with the gameplay. If my hands are off the controller then its not a game.

Khazan was a breath of fresh air and had traditional soulslike players scratching their heads cus they don’t know how to be aggressive and get on some ass

Everything before bloodborne sloppy is objectively true
Season 2 of Tekken 8 is definitely controversial and definitely can be a headache, but I think many players (mostly the competitive ones) blow things out of proportion. The game has issues that need to be addressed, but SF6 has many similar issues and doesn’t get talked about.
We’ve been dealing with throw loops since launch and the overall staleness of the meta and its mechanics go unchanged
