KD3This would’ve been a 15/10 if I went in just seeing that first trailer
I heard ppl saying the 2nd trailer spoiled too much, and
Avoided it like the plague.

sizzurpsteveThis was great I liked the build up but the back half felt kinda rushed along with the abrupt ending. I did stay for both credit scenes just kinda wish they tacked that on the end instead of separating it
Smoke/Stack twins is hard af lol need a Chicago movie with just them that would go crazy. Michael B. Jordan killed it and wow Miles Canton is fantastic too. Cast did their thing for sure this is 100% worth seeing i’d say 8.5 out of 10.

Preacher boy’s conflict in this movie I feel is so much the heart of this movie. The scene with him in the church struggling to drop the guitar I feel is one of the more important parts of the movie cause it really speaks to his overall conflict between what’s “good” or “bad”.
When we first see him in the beginning the scene doesn’t mean much but when we watch up to that part again the added context (we as the viewer already know that these vampires exist but I mean context within the movie) adds SO much.
I could be wrong, as I’m definitely going to rewatch, but I don’t think PB’s dad exists outside of his devotion to God. I think every relevant character in this movie has a personality outside of “their thing” but with his dad it’s literally only god god god which I think was on purpose as his dad in this movie IS God. Even when PB returns to the church and the congregation is freaking out, his dad uses this as opportunity to recruit as this is PB’s literal coming to God moment.
I think after everything PB went through that night, he saw true evil for the first time and ironically, the thing that saved him was the guitar, not God. Literally when he’s in the water with the main vampire dude (forgot his name) he starts to say the Lord’s prayer and main evil vampire dude starts to say it with him as a taunt. So id imagine its hard for him to drop evil and turn over to good when the only thing that saved him from evil, was “evil”.
I also think they made his dad and his congregation to serve as a mirror to the vampires and how really they’re very similar. They speak a lot in this movie about just dropping everything, joining the flock and leaving everything up to God. Smoke and Stack talk a lot about “freedom” which Stack mentions to Smoke to try and convince him to join them. I think again we see that similarity with his dad and congregation

you said this perfectly. sammie was easily my fav character and was the most complex to me the cut to him driving back down the road with his broken guitar after leaving the church gave me chills
i feel like i haven’t seen enough people talking about the film’s approach to religion fr. another one of my fav parts is when slim tells sammie he’s always felt weird about religion and that music was the true spirituality they brought with them to america
i avoided all trailers aside from the first one so i genuinely had no idea this movie was supposed to be about the idea that the blues is the devil’s music and s\*\*\*. one of my fav themes to a horror movie ever. surprised it’s taken so long to be explored

but thats part of the misconception though. The idea of being a vampire doesnt sound bad on paper. You can’t be killed for the most part. You’re immortal and avoid death. You never age and get to be young forever. But youre still shackled as you can never go out at night, and your restricted on where you can and can’t go.

Apr 19, 2025Very intrigued by the juxtaposition of the usual concept of "seduction" as it relates to vampires usual perception. Seduction as sensuality is more a human thing in this movie, contrasting with the vampires seduction towards "freedom/escape/community" as more of a focus. Even though it almost seemed like he was directly mind controlling all of them. Thought that was really cool and fresh

I think that's more of a result of test screenings than anything. The narration over the musical scenefelt like that too

fair enough. i've been thinking about it a lot more, and i think in general the 3rd act could've been a little tighter in terms of structure...regardless though i still loved this movie and im gonna watch it again tomorrow. i haven't wanted to rewatch a movie in theaters like this since dune 2

I actually loved that. Brought some emotion to it. Especially MBJ in the car realizing PB is amazing
ngl that car scene was pretty nice and sweet. everything else though (the grave of smoke's child comes to mind)i felt like was already looming in the back of my head...could just be me but idk

Deepens his character to me cause i’m sure it also speaks to how the “white man’s” religion that is being forced on PB is useless but the practices from our actual culture / religion protect him.

I think it’s more so like with them saying “the KKK is coming to kill yall” and they flashback to the fat white dude like ‘ahaa remember him???? Plot twistttt’….to me it’s unnecessary. Simply saying “the white guy who sold you this is KKK” is enough, we remember who he is
