Do I need to watch s01 before?
u should you don't have to. but also I feel like after watching episode 1 of season 2, you'll either be fully in and want to go back and watch the first or realize the show isn't for you.
I think for me I love the first half because it was organic world building and character work. The stories they were telling, the backstories didn’t feel like heavy exposition, the music, the nuances and little details of “hey ima pay you to watch my truck, but hey we need to negotiate first”, Smoke not being able to roll a cigarette. Storytelling wise I love and appreciate all that s***.
I think the vampire stuff is when it became less character driven and more plotty, and it’s always a pet peeve of mine when I can spot plot points that only happened strictly to move the plot to a specific direction.

I said this in my review but that first hour of the film is a masterclass in world building, exposition, character work, and pacing.

first episode was crazyyyyy
I enjoyed the first season but found some of it to be a bit meandering. but the way this new season starts...boi

Exactly! And for me that might work against the film. Meaning the set up was so good, that when more contrived stuff started happening, it really sticks out bad.

Ahhh ok I needa jump on it. I’m going on vacation here soon so I’ll have some s*** to watch during downtime
Yeah them showing her being a vampire was dumb as f***. But besides that her looking kinda creepy in the first shot and then calling Sammie boy made me think vampire or not her character was maybe KKK
Not watching the trailers and not knowing who was gonna turn to a vampire

First half plays to Coogler's strengths.
Not watching the trailers and not knowing who was gonna turn to a vampire
I only watched the first trailer like once. Am I the only one who saw a trailer for this and thought it looked kinda average? I was super surprised when the initial reactions came out because I was not expecting that from the trailer I saw whatsoever
Do I need to watch s01 before?
tbh not necessarily. maybe the first 2 episodes to understand what the show is.
No wonder you love Sean Baker films lmao
Lol yeah I prefer character driven films 100%
Not watching the trailers and not knowing who was gonna turn to a vampire
Not seeing any trailers/promo material at all and the only information you had was that Michael B Jordan was playing his own twin and getting to see peak

Thanks brudda
First half was my favorite part of the movie ngl
Also not saying anything bad about the second
Yall gotta stop nitpicking s*** its a movie
This doesn’t work. Ryan is a top of the line filmmaker. We are allowed to point out some flaws in a film. You can’t just write everything off as “eh it’s just a movie” no this is high level art from a high level artist and criticism comes with that.

I disagree with everything having to be ultra realistic tbh. If I wanted that Id stare out the window and not go to the cinema
