The worst thing is when people make the excuse that engineers/mathy people don't need to write/communicate as well
I feel like we are the only country that doesn't expect both from people, when frankly it should be the bare minimum
I study politics and I painstakingly learned R to deal with massive amount of data and it's made my life so much easier lol
I'm the opposite of a mathy or techy person but learning to use some of those tools have put me miles above my other colleages and classmates who are in my field type. I get the same work done in 15 minutes when it takes them days.
cope when it's not intentional it's just a systemic failure
Oh, it's absolutely intentional
Thinking it's not maybe a larger issue than illiteracy

I think most people get into IT or Computer Science thinking they wont have to deal with people when those paths probably deal with people directly the most.

The fact we have 2 decades of failure from educational policy, and a never ending refusal to increase funding makes it pretty clear. You can't have multi decade long systemic issues without some level of intentionality
Nothing wrong with taking a shortcut if you can still retain and understand the material. It’s just another tool at the end of the day.
Is looking up information on my phone instead of going to the library and finding the exact book or encyclopedia a short cut?
It is but it’s also the better option
Reading a wikipedia entry on your phone is less valuable than reading an actual book yes

Nobody said anything about Wikipedia vs reading an entire book. Silly way to look at it

So what do you mean then when looking up information your phone then?

not even a***ogous

"shortcut" requires the same outcome (and "faster")
Using AI for a book summary is only equivalent to reading a summary, and no one would say reading a summary is the same as reading the book either
Wait till ya’ll find out there isn’t a specific curriculum in elementary schools or correct method’s of teaching and they all just use the RECOMMENDED basal readers to asses learning but don’t have to if they don’t want to and can create their own methods, whether effective or not
So what do you mean then when looking up information your phone then?
If I wanna make a dish, do a repair, or look up a quick fact why wouldn’t I just look that stuff up online vs going to the library to get an encyclopedia and hope they can answer my question?

Or you know
Get an online version that I can ctrl-f to find the information I need quicker

Would be better if you read the whole cook book, obviously

Im a luddite when it comes to AI
If you cant find human generated information you should do just do better
This is how Cutie Pie Hole gets away with typing gibberish and yall let it slide lol

If the info it spits out is correct and useful then it doesn’t really bother me that it isn’t human generated.
I get the argument for art because you need that human touch but as a learning supplement I just need the information

not american but i legit forgot most of my math
You don’t use it you lose it like most things.
I couldn’t tell you anything I did in Cal 1, Cal 2, or Linear Algebra tbh
Completely expected right?
AI is going to make this much worse
Damn imagine we get so accustomed to using AI we don’t have any real world skills…..and then a solar flare shuts down our tech
ChatGPT is great to supplement some of your learning but if you’re straight up having it do the work for you it’s eventually gonna blow up in your face
No it's not even that lmfao
reading ktt posts you could tell
