Nobody said normalize pedophilia? If someone's brain isn't working properly and is making them feel attraction towards minors they deserve to try and seek treatment to help them with that. Or would you rather ignore them until they give in to their attraction and hurt a child in the process? All mental illness needs to be studied, diagnosed, and hopefully treated. Just because you find one mental illness to be more deviant than others doesn't mean throw that individual that has done nothing wrong in a hole and keep it pushing.

When you acknowledge it's a problem with someone's mental state it opens up the doors to treating it. Are you actually saying you're opposed to treating someone with such a mental affliction so that they don't go on to harm children?

I have read about the whole "pedophilia is a mental illness" thing. While I do believe there is some credence to it cause I feel any adult lusting and preying on children clearly has something wrong going on in their head, I also think that it is potentially dangerous to associate pedophilia with mental illness as mental illness is already negatively stigmatized enough.

Like for years media has tried to spin that those with mental illness are dangers to society and bring harm to people. That those who suffer from mental illness are just crazy people who need to be locked in the "looney bin". Tryna put pedophilia into the mix of mental illness is just gonna make the s*** even worse, and setback the progress being made in regards to taking mental health and illnesses seriously.

On top of that, I have a hard time fully agreeing that pedophilia is a mental illness because let's be real here, pedophiles know exactly what it is they are doing when it comes to preying on young children to kidnap in order to sexually molest and/or assault. There's just no way of them not being able to control themselves or be unaware of what they are doing because they know what they are doing is wrong and they normally go through so many different plots to get away with the s*** and stay hidden.

It's a tricky case forreal. And while I do think pedophiles need to be mentally examined so they can potentially be "cured" (if that's the right way to put it), I also think that the world would just be a much better place without them.

Think of the pioneer days or whatever the way 70 year olds got a 12 year old wife it was “normal”

That doesn't change the fact that they exist and a new one is born everyday. So rather than ignore it because you think it will cloud other mental health illness can we just use our brains and acknowledge that all mental illness is different and deserve to be looked at under a microscope. If someone's mind is plagued by these thoughts, that person lives everyday in a mental cage. I'd rather them seek out professional help to free themselves from that cage that use kids to do it. You understand?
