Wait so usher is f***ing Kim?

This is a testament to Usher aging stupendously

This is true, but I also feel like the main focus during this time became about Chris and Drake. Because these 2 were kinda head to head with the R&B Demographic at the time. Sadly for Chris, his albums started to go downhill at least for me from F.A.M.E. while Drake constantly got better as time went.

Usher was still making hits, but those core fans I felt put him to the side for Drake and Chris in the early 2010s.

i think that’s because Usher wasn’t consistently giving us rnb anymore by that point

people loved this song though. it may not have been #1 on Billboard but it was #1 in the streets lol. but aside from that and maybe Climax, every big Usher hit by that point was pop/EDM, which is why people accused him of selling out and supported Drake and CB instead. so yeah i do think he f***ed his legacy up w that bc he abandoned his core fanbase in chase of a more fickle audience

overall though, i feel like it’s natural for most artists to lose their top dog status after a certain point. like i remember Beyoncé getting called a flop around that time bc her s*** was no longer doing as well as the likes of Rih, Taylor, Gaga, etc. but looking back on it, her 4 era holds up really well

I’m not tryna disrespect but I totally get it

In the grand scheme of music, usher seems like an insane pick. He has the hits but no one under 25 is even aware of his existence lol. The star power compared to people like Rihanna and The Weeknd and what you’d expect for a Super Bowl isn’t there

Under 25 is too early a cutoff. Under 20 maybe. His last US Top 10 hit was Scream in 2012. I think the Super Bowl audience trends a little older than some other live sporting events, so TV execs probably don't care anyway.

He been in the game since 94’ no one’s judging his current performance. When he was the biggest of his peers, his only competitor was Eminem

Well maybe his time to perform has passed? Maybe he would have been a hot act when his music was hot and fresh in 94’ but in 2024? Come on bro stop it.
