If I reserve do I gotta pay the full price or is it really just $5 reserve like when I would pre order games 10 years ago lol
Literally just a 5$ reserve
When they have your unit available, you will complete the order or have it refunded

December 2021 will be the first shipments
My queue number for the 512 version was 43,000 and I’m estimated Q1 2022
I think I’ll get mine around feb / March ish.
As of rn with Q2 on other models I expect April / may as they all had much less pre orders (before they disabled the bug to see how many were ordered)
But if you order a 512 rn… don’t expect it until like august and later 2022

You may be surprised and get it way earlier cause when I think about it,most of those reserves are not gonna come through.(a good bit of them will tho)
Y’all think this gonna blow up?
Doubt it. While it's cool, it's mainly a novelty imo. Valve's hardware never really takes off. Steam machines, Steam controller, Steam link, etc. Idk about the Index, but VR in general seems to be pretty stagnant right now and I feel like I never hear about it anymore, but when I do it's mainly the Oculus and HTC Vive. But that could just be my experience.
The reason the Switch works is cause it's the only place you can play Nintendo games. Since this is just a handheld PC, there won't be any exclusives or experiences unique to it. Anything you can play on this you'll be able to play on your PC or console.
Also the Switch is a home console with the ability of being portable, while this is more a portable console with the ability to be hooked up to a TV (if you buy the dock). Which is kinda funny to me. I understand taking the console and dock to someone else's home, hooking it up and having access to your Steam library, but the dock is useless otherwise. Who's gonna hook this up to a TV or monitor at home? If you're at home then you already have access to your PC or console to play the same games.
Not trying to sound like a hater or a nintendo fanboy (I don't even got a switch) but I guess I just don't feel the same hype or see the same usefulness as everyone else. I could def be missing something and be wrong though.

Will be interesting to see this in the long run
For perspective however, before valve removed the API to see your queue number and total queue size… in the US they sold 300k units in the first couple hours.
That’s not small at all.
What will make or break this thing is developer support, if devs optimize their games for this hardware. Part of me doubts they will.
This thing is ugly as sin. Seems cool tho. How does it compare to other consoles specs wise?

Because the screen is 800p. It will be same performance wise as like a Xbox series S in comparison.
But that’s hard in practice as dev’s have access to the series S’s API and can tailor their games directly to it to make it run better.
With what he have seen so far, it can run doom eternal locked 60, fallen order “high settings” locked 60 per ign, and even they showed footage of control running locked 60fps (which is a very demanding game).
Steamdeck website updated to say this
wonder if it is easily replaceable tbh
imagine buying this device but you DONT have a good PC
im buying this and i have a good pc
im down bad
