So many indies and pc only games I would enjoy playing on this

Trash StarDoubt it. While it's cool, it's mainly a novelty imo. Valve's hardware never really takes off. Steam machines, Steam controller, Steam link, etc. Idk about the Index, but VR in general seems to be pretty stagnant right now and I feel like I never hear about it anymore, but when I do it's mainly the Oculus and HTC Vive. But that could just be my experience.
The reason the Switch works is cause it's the only place you can play Nintendo games. Since this is just a handheld PC, there won't be any exclusives or experiences unique to it. Anything you can play on this you'll be able to play on your PC or console.
Also the Switch is a home console with the ability of being portable, while this is more a portable console with the ability to be hooked up to a TV (if you buy the dock). Which is kinda funny to me. I understand taking the console and dock to someone else's home, hooking it up and having access to your Steam library, but the dock is useless otherwise. Who's gonna hook this up to a TV or monitor at home? If you're at home then you already have access to your PC or console to play the same games.
Not trying to sound like a hater or a nintendo fanboy (I don't even got a switch) but I guess I just don't feel the same hype or see the same usefulness as everyone else. I could def be missing something and be wrong though.
VR is booming the Quest 2 pushed 5 million units, the Index sucks because the value is ass.
Valve doesn't have the exclusives or enough incentive to own this device tbh. Why buy a Steamdeck when you can just build a PC, that's their entire userbase.

Not yet, Steam supports linix and proton ports. Siege isn't ported yet but idk about RDR2. Once that drops, it's a go for me lol

Per the FAQ, they are working with the anti cheat providers to get proton to work and they say it will work by steamdeck launch

Imma leave it at the beginning and play around with it. Linux has a better use of resources and has native Vulkan API support unlike windows so some games may run better on proton vs windows
But once I get bored. Installing windows and gamepass app if there isn’t a solution for that when I get mine

I might play around with proton at 10-20% space and windows using the remaining share. or keep a proton install on microsd if I can use it as a boot drive.
