Just bought a non oled 512gb for $350…this s*** is amazing.
Just built a pc about a year ago and pretty much realized I don’t like being stuck to Tv/monitor. About to turn this thing into a rpg machine!

bro im feeling the same way, i play my switch more than pc because i can't sit at my desk for more than 3 hours so heavy contemplating copping
just copped, hope i made the right choice over the ally. the ally is obviously more powerful but seems like a bit of a mess, the sd card thing makes it a time bomb and the 1 hour battery life is ridiculous
i finally caved in and copped the 500gb OLED. ordered it 3 nights ago and it’s already scheduled for delivery today hope it gets here before i have to go to work

Yeah it really just comes down to if you want portability or power. If you already have a decent pc I think the ally is pretty useless considering you can’t really take it anywhere without tying it to a charger. The linux vs windows’s issue comes into play too but there’s so many work around for non native linux games now it’s barely an issue, plus you can always dual boot.

You say that, watching some of these game comparison vids side by side the SD does hold its own if not better in some games
Either way, the SD just seems like the more finished device for an amazing price

Well pure power on paper doesn’t always translate to more fps. Saying that what i’ve seen from the ally running cyberpunk and other intensive games it’s pretty impressive for a handheld, even if the battery only lasts 45 min to an hour lol.
The SD is great for older and smaller games though, i’ve never had a gaming pc before and i’m getting to experience a lot of 7th gen and earlier games at frame rates and resolutions I never thought i’d be able to. I wouldn’t trade my Deck for anything.
Just got some money… is this really the move?

If you’re on the go a lot or especially if you don’t already have a gaming pc it’s definitely the move. Plus if you don’t care about OLED there’s a ton of pretty cheap second hand OG models on Ebay

Depends
If you wanted a more console like low power PC handheld, absolutely
If you want power and play games from more than steam, or Fortnite etc, even ps3 emulation then no
It’s a lot of hassle setting up proton versions, Lutris, but it’s the best value in gaming rn
I don’t miss mine but depends what you want from a handheld
I ended up cancelling and going for the rog ally, this s*** is amazing especially on the triple a’s
yeah the battery life is s*** but I don’t travel much so I’m always near a plug

If you want to save battery download handheld companion and use auto tdp
I really need Asus to add auto tdp feature, only thing missing from this device for me

Man you won't regret that
Absolute beast. I put a 2tb in mine and use it all the time

With how good the AC updates have been I honestly think it won't be too long until we see it

Foreal, it feels so surreal playing these triple a’s on a handheld
it runs so smooth and you don’t even have to sacrifice low graphics for it to run

Did you put a 2tb in from new or after you already set up?

2tb, ssd heatsink , playnite launcher with custom theme, rewasd for custom mapping, special k for gfx settings , intelligent memory cleaner for memory freeing, black ops 3 exploit patching, plutonium custom zombies launcher...
love it being windows. can do so much more with utilities already built for PC games.
I wouldn't recommend unless you really know windows, but I also debloated using ntlite . my idle memory footprint with steam and all my tools running idle is 4 gb. leaving a solid 11 gbs for gaming. plenty for most modern games at high texture settings
