Apparently a laser can be too mind-boggling for a cat

Mine would sit there and watch it slowly before making moves. S*** was weirdly calculated and she figured out how to knock it over and hold it sideways lmao

We don't know age. Rescue from hoarding situation. We had her a little over 5 months.

I've lost around 5 pets already, but this one hurts so much.

    Cancer is a cruel b****

I think it's ok as long as you don't break their reality too hard. Like make it seem like it's actually a there and only turn it off when it's out of the cats sight.

I'm a vet. Just put a daily portion of healthy food out. Even if he doesn't eat it at first his fat ass won't die of starvation to prove a point. Even meow mix is good as f*** if you're starving.

  • Dec 25, 2023

Stop feeding him dry food, cats don’t need it. It’s just carbs.

Switch to only wet food meals a couple times a day.

    1. What breed is he?

    2. Slowly start incorporating more wet food, and less dry food into his diet.

This is how you do it, since your vet didn't elaborate:

    1) With each passing day starting from today, start giving him 20% less dry food daily

And replace that with wet food (in higher portions, since wet is much less calorically dense than dry, and you don't want to give his system a shock from a huge drop in calories)

Do this until he's almost completely off dry food, and only eating wet. He doesn't seem picky, so you might be able to afford to go at a faster rate.

    3. Dry food is not an appropriate meal for a cat, because dry food has carbohydrates. Cats have no carbohydrate requirement, they don't need carbs, they need protein and fats.

Look into freeze-dried raw food, which is the same texture as dry food but significantly better for your cat.

The 3 brands that are the highest in quality are:
    Feline Naturals
    Vital Essentials
    Ziwi Peak

Start re-incorporating "dry" food using freeze-dried raw.

    4. Your cat is fat. Expediting that process will require some exercise, not just a change in diet intake. He may not want to move at all, since he's fat already, so this can be a challenge. You're going to need to try to get him to chase thrown toys, and to follow his prey drive. Use a laser sparingly. Encourage chasing things, and really get him going so he can burn off more calories.
