“It would be next to impossible for another musician from anywhere in the world to mimic or copy what Drake has done,” says Dalton Higgins, a Toronto Metropolitan University professor and author of Far from Over: The Music and Life of Drake. “He’s the textbook definition of a ‘unicorn.’ When you tick off all the boxes — Canadian, biracial, Jewish, grew up middle-class, a former child actor, and so on — you can’t deny his inherent ability to appeal to the widest swath of humanity.”

“If you do forensic audits of all of these women he’s name-dropping who he’s dated, who he’s had flings with — it’s all Black women. There’s something to be said about that. Black women to a point probably take in his music as if he’s singing directly to and about them.”

For sure a 1 of 1.. I think drake has always been open minded to change and he doesn’t really try to reconstruct things that made him who he is. We’ve not gotten one ‘part 2’ album or series from him. Some people have a hard time parting ways with what made them.. but that has everything to do with how you were brought up and applying those same instincts to your craft.

"The Canadian, biracial, Jewish, middle-class, former child actor has reshaped rap, pop, and the masculinity wars."

I know its probably not meant to be negative but it always feels like a slight & a diss when someone breaks down all your characteristics like that one after one.

Only putting Hov above him in terms of some kind of objective ranking tbh

He really is that dude. Seismic influence on hip hop and his best work is undeniable.

To me it just seems like they're pointing out how unlikely it was for Drake to blow up.

There's truly nothing like it and his uniqueness is pretty significant to that discussion. We've never had a non-American rapper absolutely running hip hop prior to Drake.
