For sure, I feel you on this. Big companies are going to be forced to grapple with new realities now and maybe we'll see some permanent changes to the release model, but there is and for the foreseeable future will continue to be a place for theaters.

Mulan probably wasn't the best example because the movie itself was not well received, but I don't think people are ready to spend $30 to watch a movie premiere at home, and that's legit the only way anyone is going to make their money back.

Yeah the $30 for a home premiere will never work. Only people who would do that is those who refuse to pirate/don’t know how and really want to watch the film. Majority of people will just pirate the movie like we all did with Mulan lmao. Moving forward The biggest thing studios will have to figure out is the piracy issue.

I’m not even sure how pirating s*** works, is it people are screen recording the entire thing from their computer or do they find a way to download the file

They got to get ahead of it and do what the music industry should have done 20 years ago and only barely just did with streaming: make legally buying it more convenient than privacy and cheap enough to where u dont care u could get it for free.

a LimeWire/fmovies/yify type thing that has access to all libraries from Netflix/Disney/Sony/UMG/etc. But that will never happen and instead having hella different streaming subs basically gon turn into just another way of having a cable bill

agreed however I think Movie theaters are going to really only be showing huge blockbusters. I can really see more low budget, romantic comedy, Oscar season films just transitioning to streaming services

We all know the future will look different than before, but it’s the way they drastically approach the new situation that is baffling to so many. They‘re about the ruin and destroy so many bridges to some key creative partners along the way.

Apparently HBO blindsided Legendary because Legendary wouldn’t let WB move Tenet to Christmas

Of all the movies listed, the only one I actually planned on seeing 100% in theaters was DUNE. I still will when it comes out.

Unless their motive was to kill theatres, they should've just announced the first half of 2021 going to Max

According to a source, Toby Emmerich tried to soothe In the Heights director John M. Chu by pointing out that the movie was still getting a “global theatrical release.” But industry insiders say the studio is pretending that pirates won’t pounce as soon as these films are streaming on HBOMax. As soon as it does, “there's an immediate, excellent version of the movie everywhere immediately,” notes one industry veteran.

WarnerMedia had to shovel tens of millions at Gal Godot and the other key players because the company wants a third in the series. But that sets the bar high. Sources say even Suicide Squad director James Gunn, who is platform-agnostic, was not pleased when the studio followed its shocking announcement by floating a lackluster formula for compensating him and other profit participants in the film.
