Hear me out guys. I think Lupe lowkey started the nerd/blog/backpacker movement in hip hop.
Was Charles Hamilton influenced by Lupe Fiasco?
Ppl credit Ye, he might have contributed to the aesthetic but he wasn't really on some super nerdy lyrical rappity rap rap s*** like Lupe.
Lupe Fiasco wrote the nerd rap bible
Charles Hamilton continued his work
Chimp1 completed it

Crinee
Kanye Pharrell Lupe
And those guys were gonna drop a collab project at the peak of the whole thing
Tragic
lupe absolutely started it. i actually didn't even know anything about rap blogs until i had to find a site to download the farenheit mixtapes from lol

And nowadays no one gives Lupe any credit like his influence on hip hop is nonexistent, damn
Before the XXL cover
Before A Kid Named Cudi and Pink Lavalamp
Lupe gave niggas the blueprint

crazy because lyrically he was never washed it just that he's one of the most inconsistent rappers of the last 20 years. he had a strong and solid fanbase but he kept letting people down over and over. i bought his first 3 albums on the day of their release. notice i said first 3 because after Lasers that was it for me. i never supported him the same way since
I guess you could say he kicked/pushed the movement
You did not just do that

He really fumbled the bag with LASERS
He did recover a few albums after that, but he was no longer on the pop rap tip, like his swag and artistic direction have changed from the wavy nerd rap s*** to some high art rap s***
if we're talking classic mixtapes, this s*** did just as much for me as Diplomats Vol. 5 and Dedication 2. it legit made me view flow and metaphors differently than i did before

It’s a personal classic for me
Bruh was rapping on Pink Floyd, Mike Jones, and Ashanti beats straight killing s***

If we're just going purely on lyricism and skills on the mic, he's top 10 all time and there's really no debate. He's a freak of nature. He's just one of those unpredictable mfs that was self-sabotaging. His body of work reminds me so much of Cudi's. In 2005 there was no way in hell you could tell me he wasn't that guy!

His label did
That was LASERS yeah, but after that it was all him
Well you say
He really fumbled the bag with LASERS
And that's not really fair to me
