I wasn’t sure what Kanye at 38 meant before I looked at OP but no, Drake does not reach half of that relevance.

Lot of revisionist history in here.

Yeezus was NOT loved when it was released lol. It was an extremely divisive album. I liked it, and remember being in the trenches fighting for my life trying to explain that it was good.
Even the name “Yeezus” was controversial.
It’s probably a bit more loved now. And you can hear that it influenced some ppl. But even now, I don’t think it’s called a “classic” by many ppl beyond ppl who are(or used to be) diehard Kanye fans.

TLOP was also divisive. Just not nearly as divisive as Yeezus. Some ppl felt that he was getting back to making “old Kanye” music. But it still didn’t get the universal love that he got with albums like Graduation and MBDTF. It was just considered a solid or good album by most.
And this is where he started getting even more cracks in his armor, in terms of how much the general public liked him as a persons

    It’s hard to compare either.
Kanye was still one of the biggest rappers in 2016-2017. But I also feel like how much ppl loved the music, and how much ppl loved Kanye as a person was bolstered by Kanye fans in echo chambers. Casuals we’re still mostly positive, but were getting a little iffy with him around this time.

Drake is also in a period where, the fanbase is still there. But he’s definitely become a bit of a lolcow in some places. And a lot of ppl seem to have lost respect for him. He’s still being checked on music wise. But nothing seems to have caught on like his pre-beef music.

I feel like Ye's 2016 cult is a lot stronger than Drake's 2025- there were a lot of circles that treated Ye like a king - I remember fashion and hypebeast circles, do you agree?

It wasn't "massive" culturally but it had an undeniable grip

Not because it was so beloved tho, it was more polarizing than 808s.

Yeezus artistically was not a low points

Aging far, far better than the albums on either side of it in his discography too

yeezus massively influenced trav whose last album was basically his best yeezus impression, bro came out on stage saying there's no travis scott without kanye west and he rarely goes out of his way to praise anyone like that

also you're turning a blind eye to its broader impact on music if you don't hear yeezus influence on artists like tyler, jpeg, gambino, danny, rocky, xxx, vince, brockhampton, denzel curry + fka twigs, rosalia, charli, 070 shake, injury reserve, billie, lorde, bon iver and more many of whom have openly praised or cited yeezus and kanye as a major inspiration

While some of these ppl have openly talked about Yeezus influencing them, some of these are a bit reaching.

Like Denzel Curry straight up called Kanye out for allegedly stealing Yeezus. If any of his music sounds like Yeezus, he would likely say that what influenced him are the sounds that influenced Kanye. Not Yeezus itself.

Tyler has cited Kanye as a general inspiration, but not Yeezus specifically. Infact, the album that ppl mainly say is Yeezus inspired is Igor. And songs like New Magic Wand, Tyler has spoken on his inspo of that song on stage. And it was some European band. Tyler seems to pull his direct inspo from weird, obscure music as a whole. Also, Kanye is on record saying that Odd Future was some of his inspo for Yeezus.

FKA Twigs was making weird and experimental music since before Yeezus released. And she comes from the area whose music scene inspired Yeezus. I feel this would be like if a new artist from Atlanta came out, and ppl were saying “you can hear Drake influence”, when the more likely scenario is they’re influenced by the area they grew up in, where Drake got his sound.

Yeezus definitely influenced some ppl. I just don’t think it’s as “changed the music industry” influential as The College Trilogy and 808s.

Ngl I can’t make an exact comparison.

I do think both are a little cult like, but in different way. For me I feel like a lot of die hard, ride or die, Drake fans are very Red Pill Adjacent ppl. They give off similar traits.
A lot of them are ppl that seem to value numbers, and success.

Where as I feel like I remember die hard Kanye fans at the time being very elitist. They had critical acclaim to back up their opinions. And they were the type of ppl that were super defensive and felt the need to defend him all the time(I was embarrassingly one of these fans).
