This video was parodied and made fun of to death lol and seen as so goofy

And is one of two songs most people liked

    The other being New Slaves

Parodied and made fun of to death doesn’t equal low point culturally imo especially looking at Ye today 🤣 right now Ye is def at a low point culturally

Drake is fundamentally not an artist, He does not express himself, he expresses what he views as popular or what is current in his lyrics, song structure and vibe. Take care was his best album and it's The Weeknd's illegimate child. even So far gone and before is a copy of 808s and heartbreak
Drake's talent for music is in his business, showmanship and performative arts, He knows how to work in the system because he was a child actor, groomed into an industry. That is fine, curation is a field of work and specialized interest.
It is just laughable to compare him to the Kendricks,Kanye's,Basquiat's s*** even Jay Z.
He is more akin to a very intelligent sociopathic DJ Khaled. Just instead of yelling DJ Khalleeeed. He raps one of his verses of the backs of whatever sound he thinks will be popular

Rap culture, HipHop media and the mainstream were not rocking with the album nor Kanye at this point

Due to the sound of the album and his actions + controversies of the time

It didn't grip anything HipHop wise, at the time, and the only positive he got from Rap itself was the building promo projectors + New Slaves song

He alienated Rap artists, fans and media in more ways than one at the time

You’re halfway right it was the most polarizing rap album possibly of all time and there was a clear two sides, it suckex or it didn’t. By the time the tour happened though he ended up winning everyone over

  • Of course. Drake has never been a cultural guy. Just a hits guy. Thats his legacy.

  • Drake a Canadian. No way he can be moving American culture like any peak American rapper lol

While some of these ppl have openly talked about Yeezus influencing them, some of these are a bit reaching.

Like Denzel Curry straight up called Kanye out for allegedly stealing Yeezus. If any of his music sounds like Yeezus, he would likely say that what influenced him are the sounds that influenced Kanye. Not Yeezus itself.

Tyler has cited Kanye as a general inspiration, but not Yeezus specifically. Infact, the album that ppl mainly say is Yeezus inspired is Igor. And songs like New Magic Wand, Tyler has spoken on his inspo of that song on stage. And it was some European band. Tyler seems to pull his direct inspo from weird, obscure music as a whole. Also, Kanye is on record saying that Odd Future was some of his inspo for Yeezus.

FKA Twigs was making weird and experimental music since before Yeezus released. And she comes from the area whose music scene inspired Yeezus. I feel this would be like if a new artist from Atlanta came out, and ppl were saying “you can hear Drake influence”, when the more likely scenario is they’re influenced by the area they grew up in, where Drake got his sound.

Yeezus definitely influenced some ppl. I just don’t think it’s as “changed the music industry” influential as The College Trilogy and 808s.

I said "many of whom" like yea not all of them have come out directly to cite yeezus as an influence but considering how much they're generally influenced by ye you just have to put two and two together when you listen to their music

denzel is a special case, I'll give you that, he been a capper flip flopping between praising ye as the goat, wanting to work with him and then talking s*** about him again so I'll always take his words with a grain of salt... if you don't think there's influence there (especially on ta13oo) that's fine but that's on you for taking what he says at face value after he's switched up so many times... tyler's definitely inspired by yeezus, it's among the albums that paved the way for igor being a success story, I'm not even going to entertain that but there's been mutual inspiration between both for sure...

and as for fka, she is a huge ye fan and recently listed black skinhead among the eight songs that transformed her life so yea...

I think people forget sometimes that Kanye didn’t debut as a solo act until he was 26, which is kinda crazy. So he was basically 12 years into his solo career at this point. A better, more fair comparison in my opinion would’ve been comparing Drake at 12 years into his career, which would’ve been around 2021

Kendrick and Drake still haven’t done what their legends at their level before them have done and Cole has done which is run a successful rap label. TI artist doing stadiums and he was in the back of a big 4 lmao

I remember I got dumped by my first girl and TLOP was that album that got me through it

Had to do a 7:30am start, played Famous and FML on the way. I was in my feelings but that album helped me a lot

Can we please stop with the revisionist history. Everyone wanted those shoes and loved his style back then. This s*** is still clean to this day. Enough with the try hard opinions lmfao

I hate when people bandwagon hate after an artist has controversy.

Yeezy brand as a whole had so many huge brans copying it. Even the slides set trends lmao.

I’d argue GOOD Music was successful for a very short burst of time, at least culturally, from like 2012 to 2016

running a successful label as a rapper used to be seen as important in the 2000s up until the early 2010s. that s*** don’t matter no more

Depends what you mean by "hotter culturally"

are we speaking like influence, hit records or just frequency in the news?

    Kanye probably got it though.
