Yo brother your points were all valid before but i cant accept Mirror slander
comparing it to his other closers kills it for me it feels so snti climactic despite it being a good, strong message
I will say on a lyrical level, THP5 is better than nearly every song on Morale. And that Marvin sample and production is so good
I think TPAB does a better job of balancing heavy topics and themes in a more thematically and sonically interesting way
But also, TPAB is a top 5 rap album for me so im bias about it lol
Yeah, execution of the concept on Morale was sloppy compared to GKMC-DAMN imo. And it didn't help that he did no interviews after. Feel like that would've benefitted the perception of the album
Also heavily biased towards TPAB. Can't tell you how much it meant to see one of the biggest rappers in the world make an album inspired by my country. But even S80, GKMC, DAMN - I'm putting everything above Morale just based on my enjoyment of the music and what I'm more likely to go back to
loved it on release and has only got better since, id say auntie diaries execution was ehhh but other than that i really like it
We live in an era where consumers say art is either classic or “mid” once released no in between so naturally some opinions on polarizing projects like this would come off as bot-like. On top of actual bots
No, it was his own fans and the general public. It's a subpar album and nothing will ever change that.
The fact that we had to wait so long for it did it no favors.
Subpar compared to what, GKMC and TPAB? No way is it subpar compared to the general rap landscape
It’s a classic but I rank it very low in Kendrick’s discography. That’s a testament to how good Kendrick’s discography is
out of all his closers mirror definitely does rank the lowest
and I love mr morale.

I’d probably rank it like
TPAB
GKMC = DAMN.
Morale
UU
S80
I love S80 and its highs are some of the best, but the average-bad songs outweigh in comparison to his other albums

this x10000
this song made me so excited for the album and when it finally came out i realized this was by farrrr the best track from this era
its just so far above the other tracks its hard to ignore as a bonus track.
I also think we as consumers do too much of a comparison to an artist’s previous works when reviewing albums and don’t allow projects to simply stand on its own

I guess for me, and this goes for any medium like films etc, i try not to compare things to its previous work. Cos teaching yourself to rid expectation definitely helps me appreciate things for what they are in essence more

So weird how my post below yours pretty much says exactly this lol
Mirror is amazing
If we're ranking his closers, I think it's stronger than Compton at least, which is great but feels a little tacked on. Mirror adds a lot to the themes of the album and is a great song in its own right
Not sure if I can rank it ahead of Hiipower, Mortal Man or Duckworth but I play it more often tbh

Prayer really should've been on the album imo. Fits the concept and is far better than most of the songs that made the album. Saw a rumour shortly before release that Prayer was retitled to Mr Morale. Baffling if the actual Mr Morale we got took Prayer's place on the album

yea i dont love mr morale either
prayer is so good
i honestly like soem of the leakd more than some of the album cuts
i wanna love mr morale so bad but there's sm creative decisions that baffle me and makes me wonder if interscope stepped in and he had to make compromises to ultimately release such a daring record

Ive got the whole unreleased kendrick project that got leaked before the beef happened with that song on there, so its released for me lmao
nah I’ll never forget there was a shorty on twitter that got mad at the “but a mask ain’t gonna hide who you are inside” cause they took it was anti covid LMFAOO

To the latter point, i could be coping but he really prioritises performing when making an album, and without the more mainstream songs, that Morale tour wouldnt hit the same. N95, Rich Spirit and Savior live was some of the best songs live when i saw him
also mirror sucks too
if this album was just the best tracks i'd say its TPAB level. but the half that foesnt resonate with me really brings the whole record down for me. damn is tied with this one for me, some of his greatest career highs, with questionable and corny lead singles
you’re f***ing off your rocker if you think Mirror sucks
