You are starting to sound like the fanbase you claim to hate. The album just was not good.
every fanbase is the same tbh they want their guy to be considered the best and they’ll use whatever ammo they have whether it’s sales, “quality”, awards, public reactions, reviews
GKMC
The Big Steppers
TPAB
DAMN
Section 80
i definitely agree with GKMC at the top

His best mix of storytelling and replayability imo

yeah best mix of everything people say damn was his best mix of commercial and conscious but gkmc has something for everybody plus he’s really saying something on it and he doesn’t go crazy with the experimentation which can get pretty tiring

Agree 100% the singles on Damn are super generic compared Swimming Pools and Poetic Justice
Love, Loyalty and Humble are some of the most generic Kendrick songs of all time
No, pretty sure it was the opposite. Wasn't he paying rap twitter accounts for promo? Or at least giving away free tickets to his show
Every artist you know does this no matter the genre.
It's gonna take a few years but The Big Steppers is gonna be one of his pillar albums like GKMC and TPAB
Love, Loyalty and Humble are some of the most generic Kendrick songs of all time
Nothing generic about that 24k magic sample
first like 4 pages of this might be the first time ive seen a genuine discussion about this album on here
"initial reaction" then bro posts screenshots of reactions to it 2 years after it droped lol
Not going to say No Make-Up is amazing or anything but the hate is overblown imo. Spiteful chant is actually awful tho and Rigamortus gets old eventually
But you also have tracks like ADHD, Poe Mans Dreams, Hiiipower
Second verse on Kush and Corinthians one of his best ever imo, basically the concept of DAMN summarised in a song
One thing I will say though is that Kendrick's hooks and choruses were awful on a lot of S80
Spiteful chant a classic wtf
My first listen was spiritual experience from beginning to end. Remember where I was the moment I finished.
Fascinating to see the flip on its perception post-beef.
The bad reception is perception formed by the fans he got by doing a commercially successful album like Damn. Those were the only people complaining about the lack of "replay value".
Real fans did understand that this was the first time in a long time Kendrick made an album for himself and not for the greater good.
