Y’all downplaying Nicki lol. Trust me I’m a drake Stan. I feel like they were as big as each other for the first few years of their YM Career. Nicki did exceed him a bit early on and she definitely peaked before him. When she peaked he was still on a rise and eventually passed her I’d say around NWTS era. Drake def had more haters than Nicki too. I remember every single girl wanted to be a Barbie and started rocking bangs lol. And everybody hated drake. I’ve always saw them as 2 sides of the same coin. Regardless they both need their flowers.

But how could she be bigger when both of Drake's first two albums outsold her's by A LOT. And he also was outcharting her?

I gotta applaud you on bringing up a valid point. He may have outsold her but who was more international first? Who was actually touring the world cuz they had fans everywhere? Has drake even performed in Brazil yet? Philippines or Japan? Like I a said Nicki peaked first. She wasn’t bigger than him for that long but she was that’s my point. That’s wat the thread is about. Even if it was 1 year or 2 or 6 months.

When? Just give a time frame because you're being vague. Touring in Brazil is hardly an indication of popularity as someone who been a fan of both since 09 Nicki was never a more successful rapper than Drake, not being sexist its just true

in 2010 it was pretty close. I'd probably even say nicki tbh. her hype before Pink Friday was HUGE

but also anyone with a brain knew that wasnt gonna last. From Summer 2011 on drake has been bigger

is this the real ochocinco from kanyelive????

some of you in this thread weren't around for the 09-10 peak of the young money era and it shows.

She has an argument up until Take Care. They were neck and neck up until then. From Take Care onwards, Drake was pretty hard to catch up with.

2010 - tie (*they were neck and neck, both had multiple solo singles and features crack top 10. nicki honestly might get the edge because of monster but ehhh)

2011 - drake (*im on one & take care/pink friday momentum was slowing down by this point)

2012 - drake (*the most debatable year imo. nicki had bigger solo joints but drake jus went on a tear feature wise with no lie, amen, pop that, diced pineapples, lord knows. i had to give it to em)

    2013 - drake (*nwts)

    2014 - nicki (*anaconda)

    2015-present - drake

  • Apr 9, 2021

    she was bigger in 2012

  • Apr 9, 2021

Maybe when Super Bass blew up but that was until Take Care dropped

  • Apr 9, 2021

I'm kind of understanding what the debate is here.

I think it all depends on how you view her second album. That's when she went "pop" all her big singles were pop. Probably got a lot of international fans.

But that to me is where she lost her rap audience; at a time where it was better to be a rapstar than a popstar.

  • Apr 9, 2021

Yes, 2010. After that, Drake never looked back

I think this is probably the correct take here. I can't see any year where drake released an album/mixtape/playlist that he just wouldn't take that year based on the merits of what came out.

If you went the thru thread u would see the time frame. Like I said for the third time. She was bigger for a brief period of time. Y’all really just ignoring that fact that there has been times where artists have been big AF even as big as drake for a small period of time. And just to clarify I’m talking pre 2015. Drake is the bigges artist of the past 10 years but that don’t mean he was the best EVERY SINGLE YEAR. but yeah don’t cerb reply I’m not going to. Enjoy ya day

  • Apr 10, 2021

I can see her being bigger at one point tbh but hard to imagine it was anytime during or after IYRTITL

i initially thought this but revisited. dont think its right

    In 2010
Thank Me Later sold 447K first week and moved 1M units in a month and 5 days

Pink Friday sold 375K first week and moved 1M units in 3.5 weeks

and TML had 3 top 20 hits, one being a top 5. Pink Friday had 4 top 20 hits, one being a top 3 - the 8x Plat iconic Super Bass.

    and then features like Monster.

So I think Nicki got 2010 tbh

  • Apr 10, 2021

pink friday outsold thank me later 🤷‍♂️
