Ps2, Xbox, Dreamcast and Gamecube had better games but the online boom of the next gen was definitely a moment. Halo 3 and GOW nearly held down a console by themselves
Nintendo Switch & PS4 era were full of heavy hitters too

I was already playong wc3 and counter strike and wow before then
Now some can say that all 3 of those games were compromised compared to the previous gen games because they focused too much on graphical fidelity, but they looked amazing at the time
No
That was the most fun I ever had gaming but I'm probably just being nostalgic
I wish people would be this self aware
Like I’m glad you had fun but let’s be objective for 10 minutes
90s and 2000s were the best era for gaming. 70s and 80s had to struggle to get to a point where your favorite arcade games can be translated to the average home.
2010 afterwards became movie game slop with 2020 moving in with live-service slop.
2007-13 releases single handedly killed my interest in gaming until I bought a ps4 in 2015

13 undeniably, 4 sure, 4 is my fave gta. and and mgs4. Mgs online is koj's greatest achidievement
Thread moderately blew up and I totally forgot about it
I was reading a few comments and tbh it's hard to choose between that ps1 and 2 jump or the PS2 and 3 jump.
They were both such huge leaps. Felt like we were really being ushered into a new era of gaming man. I remember seeing Madden 2001 on PS2 on the tv and playable PS2 at places like Best Buy when it first dropped. I looked so real lol.
Also, another favorite of mine wasn't even on ps or Xbox at first. Shenmue on Dreamcast was one of the most phenomenal things ever created. For those who know, know. But those that don't, it was like real life. Open world but you could actually interact with almost every npc and enter every shop. Map wasn't huge, but it was perfect size for what it tried to do. Game is a classic and doesn't get the respect or props it deserves because it didn't sell that well. Dreamcast in general was the goat, just got caught up in the ps2 era

Just out of curiosity how old were you when these came out?

ima go with 2k14 old gen -> 2k14 new gen
that real time shift to new graphics/game engine on the same game was mind blowing
