MODS DONT MOVE/LOCK, THIS IS A THREAD ON BEEF RELATING TO HIPHOP HISTORY IN GENERAL, NOT NECESSARILY A DISCUSSION EXCLUSIVELY ON THE CURRENT BEEF

I’ve been thinking it has everything in a way that the culture has never seen before.

    • a build up of like 12 years!! Ever since 2013 subliminals have been dropped, rumors have been circulating, and interviews were done fueling the fire

    • the 2 biggest of a generation but they are clashing at a time when they already have had a long career of being on top. The timing is impeccable because everybody thought the moment would have passed by now

    • the amount of music: both going multiple rounds. We went from not sure if both of them were even gonna commit to a full beef, to expecting a forthcoming drop because it became obvious they were both war ready

    • Actual rap battles always had an crowd that would sort of determine a winner.. now we actually had a big real time audience listening along. Back in the 90s it just wasn’t as interactive with the fans. And this brings a whole new dimension to this beef

    • it’s the record breaker and commercial pop sensation against the critical darling and crowned lyricist. A perfect clash written in the stars

There have been many, many iconic diss tracks in the history of hiphop. But i don’t think there’s any rap beef with a context as significant in this. This is one for the history books.

Do y’all agree? If not, what are the arguments for other rap beefs taking it?

    I agree

Ironic that it’s gonna join those 2 rap beefs and together they’ll form the “big 3” of rap beefs

Doesn’t hold a f***ing candle to the East Coast/West Coast beef or even just the Biggie & Pac highlights

Doesnt even compare to ROC/LOX/G-unit free for all in the 2000s

But PAC & biggie never had a back on forth on wax like what has happened now

The big & pac thing was more a thing of the streets than in music

Still iconic, that whole death row era is but yeah

    I'm not 40 years old so I can't account for them 90s/early 00s beefs

But yes it is by far the greatest beef of my lifetime

I think it is because of how much quality music was dropped in a short period of time but, if all accusations were made up, that makes it lose a few points for me.

to me story of addidon was goated because pusha baked actual receipts into the verse

    rather late

I think either y’all missing the point that I’m trying to make or I didn’t explain myself right

This situation is extra special because of the context. It’s wasn’t a Big v PAC that was mostly on a street level instead of music. It wasn’t 50/G-Unit leveling everyone that came on their path

It’s the years of build up in the shadows, the 2 biggest of our gen that are each other polar opposites musically.. that go multiple rounds at each other while the whole world is following their every step

Please y’all don’t spin this into a narrative about how I’m forgetting about the glorious history of hiphop. Just saying this situation is different and iconic in a whole different type of way that we haven’t seen before

Story of Adidon is super iconic but the fact that Drake never replied on wax after that makes the situation very different compared this whole recent circus

the title asks a question and people are answering it. haven't seen anyone try to "spin" any "narratives" on you fam lol

yeah I do agree there was much less music involved in that beef compared to this one

It’s just a precaution because I know how threads like these can go, and wanting to explain myself right

  • I mean jada started off dissing beans by calling him a fat smelly motherfucker
    You dont see that anymore

  • That night when kenny dropped few minutes after Drake was legendary. Experiencing all that live and seeing the hot reactions was crazy. The memes, the tension, the emotional roller coaster ...

  • no
but in terms of public spectacle probably

  • May 9

    Yes it’s more televised
