nah
I think when Drake started really making music with the intent of appearing tough, he became less connected to the process of making music, and started adopting a range of characters / modes to make music through
that's why some of Drake's songs over the past few yrs feel so lifeless
he started to lose himself and abandon the things that made him such a gem when he first popped
That Meek beef really changed that man.
He started moving different.
I remember that 2016 tour he did with future where he was dissing people at every tour date.
Just relaxing @op said “was”
It’s really over for Aubrey huh?
I think a lot of us are either in denial about, or don't really get understand just how catastrophic this was for his image
that nigga is never beating the pedo/bbl allegations and will never be as big as he was lol. ever
He didn’t have shooters beforehand, mfs posing this question as if he been with the s***.
His beef is plant-based.
That’s completely okay but don’t get it twisted w people who do this s*** to get out of the street facade because they were really there
Why are people only allowed to be associated with street s*** in childhood? He fell into that world the higher he rose in the rap game in his 20s. I don’t think it’s an act, he has power and connections. Not saying that lifestyle should be glamourised but why can’t he rap about it? Just because he didn’t grow up in that environment?
killer drake is f***ing gas idc what y’all say man
It’s the best version tbh. Despite what’s happened in this beef he makes his best music in these situations. 2017-present is my favourite version of Drake

i'll come back to this after his next album drops

There is no way you’re not a cracker

Yea it’s crazy but I’ll say this again, the multi million dollar machine behind Drake shouldn’t be underestimated. Word going to take some clever PR and creative marketing but I can see Drake coming back perhaps even stronger than before give it some time
There is no way you’re not a cracker
Lmao. Enlighten me and answer my question. I am definitely not from that world so I don’t understand

He never fell into s***. He keeps street guys around him for protection and for image it’s not real. Those guys don’t give a f*** about him. Real people who grew up in the streets like Kendrick don’t glamourise it when they’ve seen close family members and friends get killed or get life in prison. They especially don’t glamourise it when they’re damn near 30 years of age only insecure men who don’t know themselves or who are playing a character do that s***.

“He fell into the world” he is a grown man he chose to fall.
It’s people out there on that time but trying to put their families in better spots. You just casually questioning these theories and not understanding he’s potentially endangering his family for no reason is crazy. That’s what we’re talking about.
To answer your last question, YES.
If you dig into Drake's background between being poorer in a middle class school, neighborhood, white mom black dad, having to adjust socially etc.. it lines up with the general black xp of otherization. Drake & J. Cole moms both white and poor without a dad only diff is geography. There is a vid of a like 6-9 yr old Drake singing / rapping classics with his Dad in Memphis. 1st tape was a southern smoke tape. opened for Ice Cube & Mos Def in 06 was writing for Dre in 05/06. We just want to sperate based on idk. he was late teens early 20's.
Drake wasn't poor lmao
Nigga had an entire basement level as his "house" in his house, nigga was making better bucks than the average teen on Degrassi
Ya know it's nothing bad to be wealthy ya know
Idk why ppl obsessed with being poor when they wasnt

It’s not my culture so I’ll shut up and not speak out of turn on s*** I don’t fully understand. But in reference to the thread title, regardless of whether you think Drake is a cornball for choosing to adopt a gangster image after gaining money and power, if he’s actually living that life I don’t see how it’s a facade. A choice, maybe, but I don’t see how it’s inauthentic if he’s really doing the s*** he raps about or has people ready to do it for him
I also think a lot of the tough talk on wax is more about metaphorically killing competition

Ross explains it well here:

Look we all on this site to discuss, just do some research about black entertainment and how it’s used by higher power white leaders to entice violence. This is Hip Hop, we all know how it can get, but what we can’t allow is industry dudes doing this. They can’t do that when they are in THE TOP position to do otherwise, and lead the troubled youth.
But also can you really picture Drake with a gun? His “shooters” are stuck and hungry waiting for a call they will never get. If he put them on they would’ve ghosted him. Tough talk on wax made us lose real legends. Don’t play with that.
Look at Tyler. He doing the tough talk on wax well. That’s what Drake should be doing.

house split in two, his mom on 1st floor and him in the basement...helping his mom pay the bills / meds while making roughly 50k a year before taxes. He was upper lower class at best in a middle class neighborhood at best. Drake talks about this in multiple interviews including footage but because he wasn't homeless or living with the lights off while working since 14, go off.
He wouldn’t be as big but he would still be the biggest in the game. Not sure why he had to take on this gangster/mob boss persona.

Simpler terms drake was making what a manager at Walmart or target makes I was a Supervisor and a medium warehouse company doing 60k before taxes. it's not crazy.
that's true but we wouldn't have gotten images like
Views photoshoot cold as s*** no pun intended
His fans are the same way. The non black ones anyway. They cosplaying to be a part of the culture and he is a pretty good leader for them.
They live vicariously through him
As an older person that did a good amount of that s***… there’s no such thing as street. Just some s*** privileged people use to make themselves feel different.
But as a man yes they’ll be a time in life you have to drop your nuts

He was well off
Looking at the footage of his house, nah nigga was living pretty damn good
Refrigerator stocked to death, mofo got like a whole floor to his own, he never had to worry about anything
It's no problem again, just dk why niggas wanna make him poor so badly..
Reminds me of my irl friends, who claimed they were too, just to brag, until I took em to my home, then they realize being broke isn't something u wanna be or brag about 😂
