  • On a small scale at my first high school. My second high school wasn’t like that. Of course the sports niggas were more “important” but niggas wasn’t grimy to the nerds.

Nah, I was a nerd and a jock tho

  • Aug 1, 2022

I went to an arts high school, where everyone had to focus on one specific art of their choosing

  • Aug 1, 2022

I went to a boarding and then a regular day school. Never seen any extremities tbh but people would still naturally stick to their own "people" nonetheless during breaks etc

It kinda feels like with time more people are accepting of other interests

    No
Everyone was a nerd, I went to the best highschool in my state

    Scratchin Mamba

And if so which one were you?

I went to 2 high schools there really wasnt one tbh

Maybe it's just an american thing or maybe it's not even a real thing in america and it's just movies

    Raw thots

I think in bigger schools this isn't really a thing in the states. Lots of crossover between both groups in my experience.

When I moved to small town America though, that dynamic was definitely there and I felt bad for the kids who didn't play sports

    "jock"

I kicked it w/ both of em

Who are the "cool kids" exactly? What do they do that makes them "cool"?

Usually attractiveness, a special skill everyone can see, good communication skills, maturity, and/or an intuitive understanding of social dynamics

  • Aug 1, 2022

    Not really.

But it depends on what you mean. Many of the athletes in my high school also played games like COD all the time and f***ed with anime.

  • nah, it was more just individual students having beef with other specific students

feel like the nerd/jock dynamic is dated but maybe i just went to the wrong hs

  • Aug 1, 2022

nah…everyone was cool with everyone unless they had issues with each other

  • Aug 1, 2022

Kind of, more of a spectrum

Didn't even have sports at my school and the reasoning was because of they didn't want that dynamic and wanted everyone to focus on academics but the real reason is we just didnt have funding.

Students were able to do sports at their home schools tho and that dynamic was still not there.

It’s a polite way to say “people who other people want to f***

It is always cool to be sexually desired, even amongst kids who sincerely wear Virginity Rocks t shirts (maybe even moreso)

I went to two schools. at my first one, there was def that dynamic but it wasn’t serious. like I was a nerd but no one really disliked me or went out their way to give me a hard time

the school I went during my senior year was the total opposite. it was a very liberal, artsy school and that dynamic wasn’t really a thing at all. I was actually very popular that year but that popularity s*** came with its own problems lmao

but even then, I knew all that s*** was irrelevant. no matter if you were “cool” or not, as long as you had at least 1 or 2 solid friends during HS, you won

The nerd/jock dynamic of Hollywood fantasy is rarely so neatly reflected irl because it implies an inverse relationship between physical attractiveness and intelligence, and of course, reality is not quite so simple

When you are in high school most people, whatever “type” of person they are, sit within a relatively narrow band of attractiveness (people haven’t gotten fat yet) and intelligence, and the outliers in intelligence are not necessarily ectomorphic dweebs with pocket protectors

  • Everyone was cool with each other for the most part

Found myself caught in the middle of this dynamic a lot of the time growing up in a small town (yes, I am a sigma male /s). Was heavily involved with sports growing up so I grew up around a lot of the kids that’d fall under “jock” in high school. As I matured some more, I found that a lot of my hobbies and interests didn’t really align with them anymore and began to prioritize academics and learning a lot more than my peers. Moved schools and found myself socializing a lot more with “nerds” since they shared a lot of the same goals & hobbies/interests as me. I’d say I found the other kids that also found themselves in the overlap were the most relatable and easiest to identify myself with.

It was never really the stereotypical dynamic, but definitely a difference in attitudes, ideals, ethics, & morals of the two groups that upbringing/socio-economic status contributed to as well.
