No matter what I will never stop eating catfish, greens with the turkey neck (or hammock) and cornbread. Black eyed peas too.
There used to be a good Black owned vegan soul food joint in my town. I don't know if it's still around tho. I'm pretty sure that it didn't last long.
because we can gather together and eat healthier food
that doesn't have anything to do with the fact we were enslaved
What would you do to make it healthier?

the most i can do is offer the reasons why we should do something different
some others may have better ideas as to what specifically we could do to create some sort of happy medium
i'm not saying we gotta go too extreme but s*** like chitlins gotta go
imo
Porkfeet, chitlin, pickled pig feet, basically all pork must go. Can’t really think of any soul food that is crazy unhealthy outside that of swine
The rest is fine imo, especially in moderation

i do want to note though
my focus is less on the health aspect

But many former slaves remained in the South, and today, a food once considered rudimentary at its best is now found in almost every kind of place, from gas stations to diners and upper-crust eateries. Here are some favorites around the Volunteer State owned by African-Americans who put their heart and soul into every bite.."

Niggas willingly choosing to eat s*** like pig feet and pig lips is why we’ll never be free

I always thought I'd hate them, I'd refuse to eat them when I was a kid and my grandma would cook them during Sunday dinner. A few years ago my girl's dad talked me into trying them and they weren't bad at all with the hot sauce on them. I'd never go out my way to eat them tho.
